Night City is a pretty gritty place. Even in the daytime, you’ll find shady things happening down back streets, gangs battling it out for turf dominance, and some choom getting fitted with a new Cyberdeck by a Ripperdoc. During the nighttime hours, however, it can be even trickier to see what’s going on in dark rooms inCyberpunk 2077. This can make finding important quest items really difficult, which has prompted many players to ask if there is a flashlight inCyberpunk 2077.
On that front, there is some good news and bad news.
Is There a Flashlight in Cyberpunk 2077?
Typically, No
Unfortunately, there is no flashlight in the base game ofCyberpunk 2077. Even following the extensive 2.0 update and the2.3 update, which introduced several new vehiclesto the game as well as anAutoDrive feature, the lowly flashlight has not been included in the game.
However, there is a flashlight mod that PC players can make use of. It requires a few different installations and a bit of copying and pasting files into the game’s directory (all of which is explained below), but once it’s all set up, it works incredibly effectively and doesn’t intrude or detract from the atmosphere of Night City.
How to Install & Use Simple Flashlight Mod in Cyberpunk 2077
A Couple of File Installs, and You’re Ready to Light Up Night City
The ‘Simple Flashlight Mod’ forCyberpunk 2077requires players to download and install the ‘Cyber Engine Tweaks’ and ‘Native Settings UI’ mods first.
To install the two required mods, click on the links above and download them from Nexus Mods.
Once you have the files downloaded, navigate to the game’s directory. The file path to this should be something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk2077
For Cyber Engine Tweaks, you need to copy the contents of the ‘root’ folder for the mod into the folder noted above.
The file path is going to be different depending on which drive you installed it on, which storefront you purchased the game from, and if you’ve made any changes to the file path beyond the default option. You should know you’re in the right place, as the folder should contain a ‘bin’ folder.
With Cyber Engine Tweaks and Native Settings UI successfully added into the base game folder, download ‘Simple Flashlight Mod’ and extract the folder into the same folder containing /bin and /r6. The folder structure for this mod, after the path to the base game folder, should be: \Cyberpunk2077\bin\x64\plugins\cyber_engine_tweaks\mods\flashlight\init.lua
Once this is done, load upCyberpunk 2077and use Cyber Engine Tweaks bindings menu to select a hotkey for toggling the flashlight on and off on keyboard. When you load your save, press the key on your keyboard and you’ll be able to toggle the flashlight on and off. If you’re using a controller on your PC, the flashlight toggle button is automatically assigned to pressing and holding left on the d-pad.
If the default options aren’t to your liking, you’re able to use Native Settings UI’s ‘Mods’ menu to customize the flashlight’s color, brightness, size, softness, and range to your preferences.
Some players are finding that Cyber Engine Tweaks is causing the game to crash when running the 2.3 update. It’s recommended that you clear the game’s cache: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\cache and try again. If this fails, an update to Cyber Engine Tweaks may be released for improved compatibility withCyberpunk 2077’s 2.3 update.
