Summary
Kafka Hibino, the protagonist ofKaiju No. 8, may be a little older than the typical teenage shonen protagonist, but that doesn’t mean he’s any less powerful than those other characters. After accidentally acquiring the power of a Kaiju, Kafka quickly realizes that he can tap into the beast’s overwhelming power to take on any ferocious monsters who dare to stand in his way, resulting in some explosive showcases of power throughout this immensely popular series.
While there have already been plenty of exciting and flashy action scenes featuring Kafka in the manga, the anime has taken these moments to a whole new level by making them look as epic and eye-catching as humanly possible. With the manga now officially finished and the anime still going strong, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on Kafka’s best and most memorable demonstrations of power that have been seen inKaiju No. 8.
6Kafka Survives An Onslaught From Hoshina
Not Many People Can Go Toe To Toe With One Of The Greats
It’s well established pretty early on in the story that Hoshina is not someone to be messed with. As one of the deadliest soldiers when it comes to close-quarter combat, it seemed as though Kafka would have no chance of standing his ground against this fearsome warrior if the two ever came to blows, though to his surprise, he managed to do just that by channeling the power of hisinner Kaijuto greatly increase his strength and durability.
During the intense battle, not only was Kafka able to keep up with Hoshina’s speed, but he even managed to land a few sneaky hits to fend off the barrages of deadly slashes being thrown his way. While this fight doesn’t demonstrate the full potential of Kafka’s power, considering he was still getting used to it by this point, the fact that he was able to hold his own against one of the strongest characters in the series is still a clear demonstration of how much stronger he had truly become.
5Kafka Exposes Number 9’s Core
The Terrifyingly Strong Kaiju Took Quite A Beating From The Protagonist
Kaiju Number 9 is arecurring antagonistwho shows up at multiple points in the story to try and not only defeat Kafka, but also absorb his powers in the process. The first time these two lock eyes is one of the most intense scenes in the entire series, and while Number 9 may talk a big game about how much stronger he is compared to Kafka, this would only end up encouraging the protagonist to push himself beyond his limits to demonstrate his true power to the audience.
After realizing that Number 9’s core is located in its waste, Kafka launches one giant punch, which is so overwhelming that it sends Number 9 flying down the street. There’s barely anything left of the Kaiju after this brutal attack, and though it barely managed to escape with its life intact, this was an early indication as to how devastating Kafka could be when he decides it’s time to go all out with his power.
4Kafka Dismantles A Honju With One Shot
A Size Advantage Isn’t Going To Help Anyone When Facing Off Against Kafka
One of the most iconic scenes inKaiju No. 8is when Kafka jumps in front of Kikoru at the last minute to protect her from an oncoming Honju early in the story. Despite it seeming like the rookie soldier would be taken out in mere seconds when he first arrives, it’s not long before he decides to unleash his Kaiju form to take the hideous monster down once and for all.
All it takes is one giant swing, and Kafka is able to not only kill the monster but burn all of its skin off in the process, until it eventually explodes after shooting into the sky. This is atruly epic momentthat emphasized not only how willing Kafka is to protect his friends, but also the incredible underlying strength that has been acquired as a result of his inner Kaiju.
3Almost Killing Isao Shinomiya
Kafka Loses Control, Turning Into A Raging Berserker
For the first few story arcs, it seemed as though Kafka had pretty good control over his Kaiju, but this all changed once he was forced to go up against the stern commander known as Isao. Because Isao possessesdevastating gauntletsthat channel Kaiju Number 2, this was always going to be a brutal fight for Kafka to partake in, and after taking quite a beating, his inner Kaiju started to truly awaken beyond his control.
Not only was Kafka able to shrug off giant beams of power in this berserker form, but he even let out a deafening screech, which was enough to incapacitate the commander for a few precious seconds. In the end, Kafka proved to be so strong that he came pretty close to killing Isao with a relentless flurry of attacks, so it’s a good thing he was able to get himself under control when he did, since things could have gotten ugly very quickly, considering the amount of carnage he had already caused.
2Kafka Obliterates A Yoju’s Body With One Punch
With One Deadly Swing, Kafka Causes A Blood Shower After Killing His Latest Target
It’s fair to say that it doesn’t take Kafka very long before he becomes confident enough to start using his Kaiju powers in battle, with this fight in particular being one of the very first times he ever puts them into practice. After stumbling across a grotesque Yoju who is threatening to kill a young girl, Kafka decided it was time to take his new powers out for a spin, and to say that he defeated this Kaiju would be putting it lightly.
All it took was a single hyperpowered punch for Kafka to send the monster up into the sky before it then exploded into tiny meat chunks as a rain of blood flows down from above. Seeing Kafka obliterate an enemy this big so effortlessly made it difficult to fathom how on earth he could become any stronger, considering how over the top and bombastic this display of power already was.
1Kafka Launches A Mushroom Bomb Into Orbit
Kafka Reveals His True Identity In The Flashiest Way Possible
Kafka is more than capable of taking down enemies his own size, but his battle against the mushroom bomb monster proved that he’s also comfortable obliterating those who are much larger than him, too. Thisbizarre-lookingmushroom bomb monster was enormous when it first appeared, causing Kafka to wonder whether he could truly deal any damage, considering its size and durability. To go about this, he launches himself into the sky by shooting bolts of energy from his legs before then shoving his face right in the center of the monster’s surface to send it packing.
The attack is followed by an image that shows a gigantic explosion going off in the distance, spreading a shock wave across the entire area as a result of the blast. In terms of overall spectacle and presentation, this is, without a doubt, the most eye-catching demonstration of strength and power Kafka has ever shown off in the series, and it was a perfect way to demonstrate why all Kaiju should cower in fear if they are ever unlucky enough to be spotted by Kaiju Number 8.
