Nintendo Reportedly Planning Indie World Showcase for September 2024

Another such show may now be on the horizon, according to journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, also known as Brazil. Taking toFamiboards, Lippe recently suggested that a new Nintendo Direct will happen “sooner rather than later.” He also reiterated his previous claim that an Indie World showcase was planned for September 2024. For reference, Lippe is the one whobroke the story of the Switch 2 delayback in February 2024.

Even so, rumors of this sort should always be taken with a degree of skepticism, especially since Lippe’s information about Nintendo events hasn’t always been accurate. E.g., the leaker previouslyerroneously claimed that a Nintendo Direct was planned for April 2024. He later apologized for rushing to share that info prior to verifying it with more sources.

It’s Been 9 Years Since September Passed Without a Nintendo Direct

Although Lippe did not clarify when exactly the next Nintendo Direct is meant to happen, September seems like a plausible option. That’s largely because the last time that Nintendo didn’t hold such a September showcase was back in 2015. Then again, Nintendo Directs ordinarily don’t happen in the same month as Indie World broadcasts. But there’s also nothing ordinary about 2024, which Nintendo already heavily implied will be the last year in which the Switch is without a successor. Specifically, the company said that theSwitch 2 will be unveiled no later than March 2025.

Looking back to when the company revealed the Switch in October 2016, it held a big Nintendo Direct dedicated to 3DS games just one month prior. And according to recent reports, the Switch 2 is targeting a March release, much like its predecessor. It hence seems possible that Nintendo could follow a similar pattern this time around, announcing the final batch of Switch exclusives at a Nintendo Direct in September 2024 before finally revealing its next console a month later. From there, it would likely immediately start mass production to get ready for a March 2025 launch. Although Nintendo reportedly wants to avoid Switch 2 launch shortages at all costs, it almost certainly won’t begin mass production before revealing the console in order to avoid having its announcement spoiled by the near-unavoidable factory floor leaks.
