One leakedSpongeBob SquarePantsgame is reportedly set to ditch the highly popular Switch in favor of its successor, the Switch 2. Keeping in mind that an overwhelming number of Nintendo players haven’t been able to get their hands on the Switch 2 yet, so this apparent decision from THQ Nordic, the publisher behind the upcomingSpongeBob SquarePantsgame, is a surprising one.
The traces of anunannouncedSpongeBob SquarePantsgame were first spottedwhen it received an age rating from the South Korean board and from its German equivalent in June. In the same instance, it was also revealed that the game was titledSpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tideand was being published by THQ Nordic for PC and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The emergence of this leak was in line with a tease from 2024, which alluded to a newSpongeBobgame in the following year. Most recently, a new report has shared some more information about the leaked title, ranging from its release date to its price.
According toDealabs,SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tidewill arrive on July 03, 2025, for PC and consoles. In addition to the previously confirmed PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports, it will also land on thehighly successful Switch 2 console. This means that the newSpongeBob SquarePantstitle will only be playable on current-gen systems, making the game inaccessible to a sizable demographic of players, such as those on the original Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Sources also shared that the game will be priced at USD 39.99 across all platforms and will also receive a physical launch on PS5 and Switch 2. Moreover, the report suggested that an official announcement from THQ Nordic may be expected in the coming 15 days, either as part of a Nintendo Direct or during the upcoming THQ Nordic Digital Showcase scheduled for August 1.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide to Skip the Original Switch
While the Switch 2 has already sold millions of units worldwide since its June 5 launch, it still isn’t easily available for many people, withNintendo expected to continue facing stock issues going into 2026. The supply falling behind the demand for the Switch successor has also stopped a lot of people from transitioning from the original Switch to its new iteration.
Even though the leakedSpongeBob SquarePantsgamemight benefit significantly from the more powerful hardware on Switch 2, its sales could take a considerable hit by losing out on players on the original Switch. However, there are still a few months left until the rumored launch of this game and, hopefully, more potential buyers will have made the jump to Switch 2 by then.
