Harry Potter Fans Think Reboot’s Set Video Shows Hagrid’s Prosthetic Costume

Posted on Reddit by TremendouslyRiddled, a 15-second leaked set video was shared on the subreddit dedicated to the reboot, showing Frost’s Hagrid descending some stairs underground. With the area busy, the actor was escorted downstairs, but he looked a little worse for wear, which fans picked up on. Some Redditors even believed this wasn’t Frost at all, but another actor wearing a prosthetic head with Frost’s likeness, since the person underneath the costume looked a little off and disoriented. “Looks like a prosthetic head to me,” said one fan, and they questioned whether the film series’ stunt actor, Martin Bayfield, had returned. The late Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid in the movies, and Bayfield wore a prosthetic head matching Coltrane’s likeness. Previously, fans were not impressed with Frost’s debut as Hagrid, comparing the comedic actor’s look to cosplay, and the fandom’s dubiousness towards Hagrid’s new portrayal has continued into filming.

Another Redditor touched on the Hagrid actor being assisted, similar to someone wearing a “huge mascot-style costume,” hinting that this Hagrid costume may have some amount of weight to it. According to the internet, Frost is around 1.7 meters in height, so a prosthetic suit would explain why fans thought he looked as massive as Hagrid in the clip. Something that surprised fans, however, wasFrost’s intended lean into Hagrid’s more violent side, shared within a previous interview, in an attempt to portray the character in a different light while also remaining respectful to the source material.
