Magic: The Gatheringis collaborating with many franchises in 2025 with its Universes Beyond sets. The crossover with theFinal Fantasyseries resulted in one of the most successfulMagic: The Gatheringsets of all time, and later in the year, fans ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderare going to be treated to many cards based on the series, though very few have been revealed so far. It is the Spider-Man set that has theMagic: The Gatheringcommunity talking, though, with many new cards being shown off recently.
TheMTGSpider-Man cards revealed so farare very interesting additions to the game, leading to some interesting synergies for players hoping to build decks based around the web-slinger. Featuring many iterations of the wall-crawler throughout the multiverse, players have a lot of options to make these heroes team up in combos. However, there is another superhero team-up that could make thisMagic: The Gatheringcollab even better, and WOTC is already halfway there.
MTG Has Many Marvel Collabs
As exciting as the Spider-Man and Spider-Man Eternal sets are, this is not the first timeMagic: The Gatheringhas collaborated with Marvel. In 2024, TheMagic: The GatheringMarvel Secret Lairwas available for players to buy, separated into five drops focusing on the characters fromBlack Panther,Captain America,Iron Man, andX-Men, with the latter being split into cards related to Storm and Wolverine.
Though it was announced at the time that Spider-Man would be the next Marvel superhero to be featured in the TCG, another Marvel Secret Lair was announced on April Fools’ Day 2025, though the cards themselves were no joke. This drop addedDeadpool cards toMagic: The Gathering, including the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool, Trading Card, which gives the illusion that Deadpool is slicing through the physical card with his katana. These cards, like all other Secret Lairs, had a limited release, meaning that new players shouldn’t expect them to return any time soon. This doesn’t mean that the character can’t return, however, and the Spider-Man collab could present the best opportunity.

Spider-Man and Deadpool Could Team Up in MTG
Deadpool went from a lesser-known Marvel anti-hero to one of its most popular characters. Featuring in many video games and movies,Deadpool’s popularityhas made him a household name. The April Pools’ Day Secret Lair drop was a great reward for fans of the character, but the collab shouldn’t stop here. The upcoming Spider-Man sets are likely to draw in plenty of new players, but restricting one of Marvel’s most beloved characters to a limited release could be disappointing. If any Marvel character is likely to find a way to return, it’s Deadpool.
Throughout the Marvel comics,Deadpool and Spider-Manhave made for an enjoyable duo to follow. Both share a similar sense of humor and a tendency to quip when in danger, but Wade Wilson’s trigger-happy nature conflicts with Peter Parker’s moral compass, leading to some interesting interactions. Following on from the Spider-ManMagic: The Gatheringsets, WOTC shouldn’t be afraid to revisit the Merc with a Mouth, giving players a new range of Deadpool cards to use in their Spider-Man decks.
MTG Has Plenty of Options for Deadpool Variants
The idea of the multiverse hit the mainstream recently, withDeadpool & Wolverinebeing one of the latest Marvel movies to use this concept. The Spider-ManMagic: The Gatheringcollab shows that multiple variants of the hero can feature in the same set, so if more Deadpool cards were to be released in the future, it wouldn’t be impossible to see manyvariants of the anti-hero fromDeadpool & Wolverineand the comics.
The existing DeadpoolMagic: The Gatheringcards mostly feature Wade Wilson, with the exception of the Harmless Offering bonus card, which shows Gwenpool holding up Jeff the Land Shark. For a new set of Deadpool cards, there may be some more Wade cards, but there are tons of Deadpool variants who could also take the spotlight, including:
One of the best choices for a Deadpool variant inMagic: The Gatheringwould be Lady Deadpool. As one of thestrongest versions of Deadpool, Lady Deadpool is much more competent than Wade in combat, and as such, her card would likely have abilities that focus on her dealing damage to opponents or their creatures. She recently appeared inDeadpool & Wolverineand is one of the character’s most popular variants, so it wouldn’t be likely for her to be overlooked.
Tying back in with Spider-Man, another great choice could be Venompool. By bonding with the Venom symbiote, Deadpool becomes even more of an unpredictable threat, which could make for an interestingMTGcard. Venomized designs are still popular, withMarvel Rivalsrecently receiving symbiote skinsfor the roster in the Season 3 Luxury Battle Pass, so a Venompool card could take advantage of the popularity of this variant type.
Although Gwenpool is already on the Harmless Offering card, she doesn’t have a card of her own. Spider-Gwen has multiple cards in the upcoming Spider-Man sets, so it would not be out of the question for anotherversion of Gwen Stacyto receive a card. Gwenpool is almost as popular as Wade Wilson’s Deadpool, with an even greater emphasis on breaking the fourth wall. Gwenpool deserves aMagic: The Gatheringcard of her own that is just as meta and self-referential as the character herself.
Spider-Man’s crossover withMagic: The Gatheringis likely to excite fans of both franchises while being the perfect incentive for Marvel fans to try the TCG for the first time. News on any Marvel sets followingMTG’s Spider-Manremains unknown, but this could be the perfect opportunity to release more Deadpool cards. It could lead to some great combos as part of a Deadpool and Spider-Man team-up while bringing a host of new variants to the game, each with their own unique abilities.
