On July 29,Mario Kart Worldreleased its version 1.2.0 update, and one of the key changes was a nerf to the Boomerang Flower item, as its homing potency was reduced.Mario Kart Worldversion 1.2.0 also added some new rule options to VS Race in both Single Player and Multiplayer game modes, and made some bug fixes.

The new 1.2.0 update came a month after the previous patch, version 1.1.2, made somecontroversial changes to online play that drew the ire ofMario Kart Worldplayers. In version 1.1.2,Mario Kart World’s online mode prioritized Intermission courses when selecting the “Random” option in a wireless race or a VS Race, which would task players with traveling to the next racetrack and completing one lap upon arrival. The changes proved unpopular withMario Kart Worldplayers, as some took to social media to air their concerns while asking Nintendo to reverse course.

WithMario Kart Worldcompleting its second month on the market, a new patch is now available for players to download.According to the patch notes posted by Nintendo,Mario Kart Worldversion 1.2.0 has added “No COM” and “Mushroom Only” rules to VS Race modes, and added a noticeable nerf to the Boomerang Flower item. While theBoomerang Flower can cause other racers to spin out of controlwhen hit, the item also has some homing capabilities. In version 1.2.0, the homing potency of the Boomerang Flower was made weaker, soMario Kart Worldplayers need to aim more carefully than before.

In an about-face decision from Nintendo from the previous patch, lap-type courses will now appear more frequently when choosing a racecourse in VS Race and wireless race modes instead of Intermission courses. CPU players have also been nerfed in all game modes aside from Battle mode, and the rate of Triple Dash Mushrooms appearing when in low race positions has also decreased.

Due to the changes, version 1.2.0 is required forMario Kart Worldonline play. The patch also fixed some bugs, including some that caused vehicles to stay floating in midair after jumping off a half pipe, or caused rate fluctuations to display incorrectly in wireless races. WhileMario Kart World’s 1.2.0 update fixed some issues, it is unclear ifa reported glitch with the Spiny Shell itemwas addressed.

Certain issues withMario Kart World’s various tracks, such as Sky-High Sundae and Dino Dino Jungle, were also fixed with the 1.2.0 update. With support forMario Kart Worldshowing no signs of slowing down, it remains to be seen what further changes Nintendo makes down the line.
