Summary
By the time its last Beta wrapped up,Marvel Rivalshad a total of 24 playable characters on its roster. As should be expected from a hero shooter, each of these characters comes with their own set of unique abilities and a distinct, powerful ultimate. Generally speaking,Marvel Rivals' rosteris already quite impressive, encompassing heroes and villains from across all corners of the Marvel universe. But things are only just getting started.
Developer NetEase has already confirmed that it plans on adding new heroes toMarvel Rivalson a fairly consistent basis, and there’s no shortage of source material to draw inspiration from. But while recent additions like Jeff the Land Shark prove that NetEase is willing to take influence from more obscure sources, there are still plenty of Marvel mainstays that need to come to the hero shooter, some of which have already been leaked. And there’s one newly leaked character who could end up borrowing one or twoOverwatchhero abilities.
This article revolves around leaked information, which should always be taken with a pinch of salt.
Marvel Rivals' Captain America Could Borrow One or Two Overwatch Abilities
Marvel Rivals' Captain America Leaks Explained
While Captain America has been one ofMarvel Rivals' rumored post-launch heroes for a while now, the first substantial leak regarding the character happened at the beginning of August following the game’s recent Closed Beta. Originally posted by Twitter user 404LEAKbackup, this allegedimage ofMarvel Rivals' Captain Americahas since been removed, but not before fans could circulate it around the internet. It wasn’t long before renowned leaker Miller Ross took to Twitter to corroborate the image’s authenticity.
This leaked image showed a familiar, but distinctly different Captain America from the one most Marvel fans are used to. While this version of Captain America wears the traditional red, white, and blue color scheme, his outfit seems to be more armored and far more high-tech than usual, appearing more likean Iron Man or Iron Patriot suit. Cap’s red gauntlets are also very Iron Man-adjacent, with a blue circular light appearing on the back of his hand.
It’s been heavily rumored that this futuristic visual design is actually due to this version of Captain America being from the 2099 universe, which is supported by a Captain America spray being found in the files relating toMarvel Rivals' Tokyo 2099 map. If this version of Cap is from the future, then it seems likely his high-tech gauntlets could produce his iconic shield as a hologram, which could put him in the same boat as twoOverwatch 2heroes.
Captain America Could Be Marvel Rivals' Brigitte or Reinhardt
IfMarvel Rivals' Captain America uses a hologram shield, then fans are going to draw immediate comparisons between him andOverwatch 2’s Brigitte and Reinhardt. And those comparisons would only grow stronger ifMarvel Rivals' Captain America borrowed one or two of theseOverwatchheroes' abilities. With Doctor Strange already borrowing Reinhardt’s shield wall ability, it seems likely thatCaptain America’s shieldwould take more influence from Brigitte’s personal shield, only being able to shield himself and perhaps one ally. It also seems likely thatMarvel Rivals' Captain America could have a shield-bash ability akin to Brigitte’s.
But according to the leaks,Marvel Rivals' Captain America will take onthe role of a Vanguard, this game’s version of a tank. So, while his shield abilities could resemble Brigitte’s, it seems unlikely he’ll borrow any of her healing powers. Instead, Cap might borrow a projectile attack similar to Reinhardt’s, giving him a ranged attack to use while his shield recharges.
