Summary
SomeMonopoly GOplayers aren’t happy with the game’s ongoing Treasure Dig event and have recently opted to share their displeasure on social media. Their grievances seem largely rooted in the perception that the newly launchedMonopoly GOactivity is designed to aggressively encourage spending.
Called Haunted Treasures, thelatestMonopoly GOevent officially kicked off on October 30. Halloween theme aside, the rules of the ongoing promo are largely similar to past Treasure Digs, with the general idea being to uncover as many treasures from a limited-time event screen as possible. To do so, players need to earn special pickaxe tokens, which they can spend to dig up rewards. The exact treasure locations are semi-randomized and hence different for every player. Each event level requires a different type and number of items that need to be unearthed, with every subsequent stage offering greater rewards than the one before it.
And while the event is hence conceptually similar to past Treasure Digs, some players have taken issue withMonopoly GO’s Haunted Treasures progression curve. Specifically, the event has been somewhat panned as being extremely stingy with pickaxes, to the point that completing it as a free-to-play player is nigh on impossible. Taking to social media, some fans have claimed that they have wasted thousands of dice rolls trying to finish the treasure board, with those efforts producing mixed results.
Monopoly GO Players Push Back Against New Event Progression Curve
PastMonopoly GOtreasure hunting eventsgenerally required between 200 and 400 pickaxes to fully complete. The exact number always varies based on the number of treasures featured in a given promo and limited-time pickaxe bundle rewards and bonuses offered during the event, among other factors. In contrast, some players have recently claimed that they’ve spent over 500 pickaxes finishing Haunted Treasures. This group includes Reddit user Low-Eggplant-9862, who described the overall experience of completing the event as “awful.”
In light of this state of affairs, someMonopoly GOplayersare saying they have already resigned themselves to not finishing the event. A number of them are also actively pushing back against its progression curve, having started calling for developer Scopely to return to events that are easier on their dice roll reserves.
The chances of the British studio listening to these demands are currently unclear. As for the event itself, Haunted Treasures is set to conclude later today, November 3.Monopoly GO’s next Treasure Dig is expected to launch before the end of 2024.
