The Isekai genre wouldn’t be what it is todaywithout one or two foolish villainsattempting to stop the summoned heroes, and falling in the process due to plot armor, or their own incompetence. These walking EXP bags are often part of larger entourages: Cults, Demon Lord Armies, or more often than not, corrupt and entitled nobles. Their incompetence has caused more than one problem in their own worlds, and it usually ends up being the major cause of death among third-rate villains in anime.
This list details the most incapable (and despicable) anime villains in the Isekai genre. Examples range from a Dullahan who can barely keep his head controlled, to a powerful Sage and summoner who repeats the same mistakes and wonders why her plans fail.
One of many third-rate villains from the Isekai showKonosuba,Verdia is one of the Four Demon Generals from the Demon Lord Army. As grandiose as that might sound, Verdia The Dullahan is nothing but a clumsy and historically hilarious comic relief. Behindhis ominous aura and capabilities for curse magic, this former knight turned into an undead, is easily defeated when he decides to invade Axel.
Since Megumin had been bombarding his castle (he was dumb enough to set up his base of operations in a fortress ruin near Axel), Verdia issued a challenge and asked for an honorable duel. He didn’t know that he would be played for a fool. Furious, he returned once more and confronted Kazuma and his friends, showing his neurotic side while being provoked by the Thief. On top of that, he loses his head and Kazuma uses it as a football. What kind of Dullahan loses his own head like that? Ultimately, Verdia’s opponents rain down a tsunami of holy water on him, and he ends up being banished by Aqua’s powerful divine magic.
5Alexei Barnes Alderp(Konosuba)
Even His Moustache Screams Incompetence
Alexei Barnes Alderp (known as Alderp in the show), is one of the most infamously dumb villains in Isekai anime. He is not only perverse, but he is incompetent as a Lord on top of that. He is always conspiring, but in the most sloppy, obvious, and ridiculous ways.
He is responsible for the Dustiness family’s strife, not because he is a great power player, but due to a stroke of good luck that he used to ruin Darkness’s family and try to force her into a convenient marriage. Of course, his plans could be nothing but a castle of cards. Kazuma, even at his lowest, could outsmart him and cause his downfall using all the money he gotselling his superior otherworldly technologies.
The elder brother of Shera Greenwood, Keera, is nothing but a silver-spooned fool. Entitled and jealous of his sister, he conspires to kidnap Shera back and tries to force her into a morganatic marriage. Nearly causing an international incident, he attacks the human kingdom with the purpose of capturing her. Not happy with that, he defies Diablo and attempts to brainwash his sister. He knows all too wellthe capabilities of the demonic magician, but he can’t see farther than his pointy nose.
He even went so far as to summon a Hydra, a destructive dragon who laid waste to the forest before Diablo exterminated it. Of course, he ended up getting his rear end kicked by the Isekai’d magician. His life was spared only because Shera intervened. If not for her, Diablo was planning on executing the arrogant and incompetent princeling on the spot.
Princess Alexia’s fiancee and an aspiring member of the Cult of Diabolos, Zenon Griffey, is a snobbish, childish prick, incapable of proper planning. He was clumsy enough to kidnap his own betrothed for the dumbest of purposes: to get the attention of a cult of incompetent fools.
Of course, his pathetic exertion ended with Shadow Garden intervening, killing all his henchmen, and Shadow Himself blasting a hole in his lair, evaporating him into nothingness in the process. But the legacy of this foolish nobleman persisted, since Princess Alexia was always wary of her surroundings afterward. Zenon also did one of the dumbest possible things: talking about his plans and a secret society/cult in front of his captives.
2Carmilla Vanstein (Kemono Michi)
Either Incompetent, Or A Masochist
Carmilla is a lower-class vampire, a servant to Hanako, anda tremendously clumsy villain. Carmilla is at constant odds with Genzo and will try to ruin his plans and basically be a nuisance to him as much as possible. Though she knows she is powerless against the strongest Wrestler of Earth (and the other world as well), she openly opposes him. She often suffers the consequences by being used as a practice dummy for Genzo’s wrestling maneuvers.
Carmilla’s thin vampiric blood is not her only flaw. Not only is she petty and resentful, but lacks common sense to boot. She is often categorized as less intelligent than a dog, something that Shigure often remarks (since she is a member of the dog-eared race). Her only redeeming quality is her loyalty to Princess Hanako, whom she loves and respects more than anyone.
When it comes to incompetence, Sage Sion occupies the first place among villains in Isekai Anime. First, she summons random people out of the blue. She can’t even manage to do a target summoning, bringing not only Japanese students but a bus driver and teachers too. Though she had the powers to do so, she just summoned them on a whim, to implant the Sage system on random people. Then, she antagonizes the ones she summoned, though she knows they can become powerful and her future enemies.
Third, she kills people in front of them and forces the remaining students to act as selfish and careless as she conducts herself. Lastly, she doesn’t double-check to see if the people she left behind are truly dead. This, of course, includes the very God of Death who was sleeping in the back of the bus, alongside his friend Tomochika. When her minions start to die en-masse, she finally realizes something is wrong, and has no better idea than to send even more minions to do her bidding. She watches and summarizes thather enemy has an Instant Death skill, so she sends more people to die, knowing that this person is unstoppable. She repeats the same strategy time and again. These are only a few aspects of what makes her the most incompetent villain in ongoing Isekai anime.
