With the season nearing its end, Summer 2024’sisekai animehave presented their cases for whether they are worth watching or not. Overall, the lineup will not be remembered as an all-time great, particularly after the stacked Spring 2024; that said, the shows are generally watchable. More importantly,Summer 2024has a couple ofoverpowered isekai protagonists.
Compared to recent seasons, this quarter does not overindulge in OP MCs, which is quite refreshing. Still, if someone is craving stories featuring visitors capable of curb-stomping seemingly powerful enemies, they should be more than satisfied.
Updated on Jul 22, 2025 by Mark Sammut:As Summer 2024 is only a few weeks away from concluding, this article discussing the season’sstrongest isekai protagonistshas been updated to reflect the current status of the shows. Beyond that, an additional entry has been introduced.
Before progressing further, here are a few criteria and things to keep in mind:
The forgotten Summer 2024 isekai anime,Quality Assurance In Another Worldhas mostly flown under the radar, which is a shame as the show is pretty decent overall.Set within an in-development game, a group of QA game testers learn that they cannot log out, leading to some natural chaos. While most of them started to abuse their powers, Haga opted to continue to do his job by testing bugs and refusing to enter a debugger state, which would give him developer privileges and allow him to alter the world around him (or grant himself over-the-top abilities).
While certainly not the season’smost OP isekai protagonist, Haga technically has the potential to be quite strong. If he were to take advantage of his developer access, he could become something of a demi-god within the game, putting him well beyond reproach by any of the NPCs or monsters. However, he specifically refuses to engage in that behavior, which puts him at a considerable advantage whenever he finds himself going up against testers who are willing to take that step. As he currently stands, he is just slightly stronger than the average character, although he can take quite a beating and keep on rolling. Honestly, his greatest asset is his knowledge of bugs.
Even if Haga were to enter the debugger state, he would still be just one of an array of characters with that ability, so he would hardly be that overpowered.
No Longer Allowed in Another World’sOsamu Dazaiis hard to pin down, especially his power potential. Summoned to serve as an other-worlder, Sensei has no interest in fulfilling this role, nor does he seem equipped to do so. He is at a very low level and (initially) appears to have no special ability, a first for this type of summon.
However, Sensei has peculiar defenses that trigger in special circumstances, and they are mostly tied to his nihilistic and suicidal tendencies. As the universe seems to be specifically working to keep him alive, Dazai (literally) grows stronger when death approaches, to the point of receiving an HP boost. His blood is also toxic and deadly, which has allowed him to turn the tables against many enemies.
Most importantly, Dazai’s unique skill eventually manifested itself, and it is very useful. He can teleport other-worlders back to their original universes, although he has to initially write a story about them. Beyond that, he also seems to have the potential to give allies power boosts, although he has only used this element once so far.
Dazai has come close to dying a few times, and he is physically weak.
Unfair as it might seem to group five characters, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark are treated as a unit bySuicide Squad Isekai, and their strength lies directly in their cooperation. As individuals, none of them would have any chance of taking on a dragon; as a team, they just about manage to topple this fantasy archetype. They also overcome armies and a few other DC characters, including Ratcatcher, The Thinker, and Enchantress.
For the most part, the anime’s versions of these characters are similar to their comic counterparts, albeit boosted slightly through magic. Clayface is probably the most powerful member, but he also cannot handle water, an easily exploitable weakness. King Shark is a decent powerhouse, while Deadshot and Peacemaker are deadly with weapons. Harley Quinn is Harley Quinn, meaning she is a surprisingly great fighter who gets a significant power boost towards the end of the show due to, effectively, being the main character.
Sent to a new world as an apology for his early death, Takumi quickly finds himself taking care of two children, establishing a make-shift family featuring mostly strong members. Granted special privileges by his deity benefactor, Takumi essentially has endless growth potential, allowing him to work his way up and (presumably) become stronger than even the highest-tier heroes. Within a few episodes, he can already use advanced magic, and he even has S-Tier monsters as summons. Alongside his kids, Takumi clears a labyrinth without any real issues.
Due to primarily being aslice of life adventure show,A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuringdoes not emphasize action, so Takumi is not granted all that many opportunities to shine. His children, Elena and Allen, are also powerful, and they often defeat enemies before Takumi has a chance to do anything. While one ofSummer 2024’s strongest isekai characters, he does not frequently get to show it.
Now, let’s get to the season’s trulyOP isekai MCs. As revealed by the title, Ike, a magician working under the Demon Lord, is secretly human. Raised by a very powerful demonic teacher, he not only absorbed his master’s teachings but also expanded on them through white magic, which is especially effective against demons.
Ike showcases his white magic trump card during his battle with Basteo, a demon who is trying to usurp the Demon Lord.
Ike’s magic covers a robust range of spells. He can read minds, slow down time, teleport, create a forcefield that protects a castle, bind enemies, and summon rock pillars, and that is not an exhaustive list. He lives up to his billing as the strongest magician in the Demon Lord’s army.
That said, Ike is almost certainly weaker than theDemon Lordherself, at least from what has been shown so far. Cefiro and Lilith are also not that much worse than the protagonist, and Basteo puts up a respectable fight until Ike starts to use white magic. After that, Ike struggles quite a bit in a large-scale war against human enemies, to the point of the demons being seemingly on the losing end. He is very powerful and can be a one-person wrecking machine in the right circumstances, but he is hardly undefeatable or infallible.
Failure Frame’sTouka Mimori is Summer 2024’smost powerful isekai main character, and it is not a contest. Summoned alongside his classmates by an awful goddess, Touka earns the ability to cast status effects, which are considered useless due to their low accuracy. Consequently, the deity sends the protagonist to a dungeon to die, seemingly sealing his fate. However, Touka quickly learns an important fact: his status effects always hit. Before long, he is paralyzing, poisoning, and defeating powerful monsters, earning XP that allows him to level up at a ridiculous rate.
Within the first episode, Touka skips level 600. Comparatively, his classmates require multiple episodes to skip level 20, and those are only the “strong” ones.
Freed from the dungeon and seeking revenge on the goddess, Touka sets out to explore the world, constantly growing more powerful in the process. While mostly wanting to stay out of trouble, the protagonist gets involved with an elf who is being targeted by the Black Dragon Knights, who are among humanity’s strongest champions. Touka beats the Five Dragons all in one go, a victory that rewards him with new spells that will surely be useful in the future. He is also not afraid to kill.
After that huge display of power, Touka has steadily continued to get stronger. Despite having a few fairly capable allies who travel alongside him as a party, their contributions mainly consist of acting like bait or finishing off enemies who have been rendered immobile by Touka. He is just ridiculously overpowered.
Technically, the goddess is probably stronger than Touka at the moment, but that’s a very high ceiling.
