My Hero Academiaslowly comes to a close as the final epilogue of the series has been released, and Deku’s journey comes to an end.My Hero Academiahas delivered an emotional and action-packed story that has left a significant impression on the anime community for years. While the main storyline ofMy Hero Academiais a fantastic ride, the series' value was in the vast number of side characters that were put in the spotlight.
Deku’s classmates, pro heroes, and the like were all interesting side characters who could have easily had their own story. While most of the heroes inMy Hero Academiawere proud symbols, there were a few who seemed to be occupying the wrong role. Here are somecharacters inMy Hero Academiawho would have made better villains.
8Bakugo
The Wild Lone Wolf
Bakugoserved as the deuteragonist ofMy Hero Academiaand a rival to Izuku Midoriya. In the series,Bakugo is portrayed as a hot-headed hellion, which matches his Explosive Quirk, which causes his sweat to ignite into massive explosions. Bakugo is a stark contrast to all his classmates and even most heroes, as he is destructive, violent, and quick to anger.
While Bakugo’s softer side was explored later in the series, there was a moment when his story could have taken a very different turn. After being kidnapped by the League of Villains, he was offered a chance to join their group. A villainous Bakugo would have been a much graver threat than Shigaraki’s evolution into All For One’s second coming and would have posed an incrediblechallenge for Deku.
7Nighthide
A Power Built For Control
Hitoshi Shinsohad a very brief introduction inMy Hero Academiaduring the sports festival, where Deku defeated him. With amind-affecting Quirkthat would make him more suited for certain corporate-level jobs, Shinso took the hard path and decided to become a hero and join the UA Academy.
After being defeated in the festival, Shinso was taken under Aizawa Sensei’s wing and obtained a strong set of combat and tactical skills. If this had never happened, and Shinso instead wound up as a member of the Meta Liberation Army, he would have become a formidable foe for Class 1-A and maybe even turned the tables on the League of Villains.
6Nighteye
The All-Seeing Eye
Nighteyewas introduced in the third season ofMy Hero Academiaas All Might’s former sidekick and the current mentor to Lemillion. Nighteye served All Might loyally for years, using his Precognition Quirk to stay ten steps ahead of any danger that would prove dire to his idol. After All Might’s grave injury, the two separated over a disagreement aboutAll Might’s safety.
If this split had been more volatile, Nighteye could have ventured over to the dark side, and instead of searching for All Might’s successor, he would have tried to prove just how incapable All Might was if a true challenge presented itself. Additionally, Nighteye would have given All For One a run for his money as one of the most dangerous villains inMy Hero Academia.
5Endeavor
The Flame Of Despair
Endeavorhas acomplex relationship inMy Hero Academiawith both the world and the series' fans. While initially portrayed as an overzealous and egocentric grandstander, Endeavor’s rapid transformation gave many fans whiplash, as he became the calm and reserved hero who stepped in after All Might’s retirement.
Unfortunately, Endeavor’s abusive history painted his character in broad strokes, and many fans never saw him the same way. Had Endeavor lost himself to his delusions and gone off the deep end after realizing his own limitations, he would have made one of the most dangerous villains in the series that, without All Might, would have been unmatched.
The Blood Hero Would Have Made A Better Antagonist
Vlad Kingis a homeroom teacher inMy Hero Academiawho receives limited screen time but has a cold demeanor and a menacing appearance. Vlad King’s Quirk earns him the title of Blood Hero; he can control and manipulate the blood in his body in a number of ways.
While Vlad King doesn’t have any eccentric personality traits in the series, he would have probably made a more significant impact as a one-off villain, like Muscular or Overhaul. While a bit overdone, the vampire trope character fits better and could have even added more depth to Toga’s storyline.
3Gang Orca
The Aqua Hero Could Have Been The Pirate Villain
Gang Orcaplayed a significant role during theProvisional Exam arcfor Class 1-A students in the third season ofMy Hero Academia. In the series, Gang Orca is portrayed as an intense individual with a temper, one who was likely a delinquent in his younger years.
However, among his peers, he is a highly respected hero who is ranked number twelve. Gang Orca would have made a fascinating villain, acting as a terror of the oceans that surround Japan. Leading a crew of unsavory pirates would have made for an interesting opponent for the Class 1-A students or a formidable tool for the League of Villains.
2Gale Force
A Sweeping Force That Could Have Been A Storm Of Terror
Inasa Yoarashiis a student from Shiketsu High who debuted during the Provisional License Exam and received some attention afterwards for engaging in a fight with Todoroki Shoto. With a Quirk that allows him to manipulate the wind, Inasa is an incredibly powerful hero with an ego to match.
His one-sided conflict with Shoto stemmed from jealousy, which caused him to lose sight of what being a hero is truly about. At the same time, Inasa didn’t receive much development after this interaction until the final battle. However, had Inasa joined the League of Villains to get revenge on Shoto, it would have been a more dominant fight than the recurring battle between Endeavor and Ending in the Endeavor Agency arc.
1Phantom Thief
The Copy Hero Could Have Been A Major Threat
From his very first appearance, it was very clear thatNeito Monomawas in the wrong profession. While a prominent member of Class 1-B, Monoma had specific personality traits that made him stand out as incredibly odd compared to his other classmates.
Personality-wise, Momona had a sinister energy about him and acted extremely hostile towards his fellow classmates of Class 1-A, which made him come off as a more suitable villain than anything else. Monoma’s Quirk allows him to copy specific Quirks from other people, although there are limitations. In a different life, a villainous Monoma would have been a decisive factor in multiple conflicts inMy Hero Academia.
