What is The Prejudice Against Heteromorphs?

Heteromorphs Faced Discrimination Due to Their Appearance

InMy Hero Academia, individuals come in all shapes and sizes due to their Quirks. In the series, those with unique appearances due to their Quirks are called Mutants or Heteromorphs. These individuals have complex appearances that make them stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, some individuals have an appearance that could be seen as frightening or abnormal by those who live in smaller towns.

When Quirks first appeared, many individuals experienced a change in their appearance, and thus discrimination began. Many believed those with Quirks were anomalies before Quirks became widespread. However, over time, this discrimination did not fade away. In smaller communities or towns, those with Mutant Quirks are highly discriminatedagainst to the point of isolation.

While smaller communities and towns outright rejectthose with heteromorphic appearances, this is not true in larger cities. Individuals who are heteromorphs are accepted and not treated any differently from other individuals. Unfortunately, there are also organizations that hate heteromorphs and believe they should not exist, such as the Creature Rejection Clan. However, that group has since been defeated bythe League of Villainswhen they needed funds.

What was the catalyst that began the start of change?

Shoji stood up for change during the Final War and began to advocate for it

Spinner was given a different mission during the Final War from the remaining League of Villains. To induce another setback against the Pro Heroes, Spinner was tasked with freeing Kurogiri, who was being held at the Central Hospital. However, before doing so, All For One had giftedSpinner with two additional Quirksto assist him in the upcoming battle.

It is well-known that obtaining multiple Quirks at once can and will harm your body. For this reason, Midoriya Izuku was tasked with training for some time before receiving the Quirk One For All. This is also whyShigaraki Tomurahad to undergo a process to strengthen his body before All For One was to obtain it as his vessel.

At the Central Hospital, Spinner had led an army of heteromorphs; these consisted of members withinthe Paranormal Liberation Frontand ordinary civilians who wanted to support the cause. During this time, Spinner was considered the leader of the cause, which was thought to bring change to the prejudice the heteromorphs have faced until now. Unfortunately, Spinner was no longer in his right mind as the additional Quirks caused Spinner to become mentally unstable. As a result, he no longer cared about the cause and slowly descended into insanity. However, he was able to pull himself togetherto free Kurogiriin the hospital.

At this time, there were two factions within the heteromorphic army: those who wanted justice for the prejudice they had faced and those who were slowly coming to their senses and no longer wanted to participate in the battle. This was thanks to the efforts of Mezo Shoji and Koji Koda, who fought back against the army, trying to reason with them and make them see this was not the way to remove the prejudice heteromorphs faced.

Don’t give in to your wounds!! Because then your children will be their next target!! … Hatred will never disappear.

Shoji understood that hatred and revenge are emotions that can be passed down to younger generations, as he was on the receiving end of them when he was younger. However, he also understood that stopping hatred when it started is a way to nip the bud and prevent hatred from blooming in the younger generations.

At this time, many individuals within the heteromorphic army had begun to rethink their stance on the “call of action.” After witnessing the determination of the Central Hospital’s doctors and nurses, in addition to Shoji’s speech, Shoji’s voice had been able to reach them and thus put a stop to the destruction.

Was Shoji able to resolve this prejudice against Heteromorphs?

Although prejudice has not been eradicated, Shoji has resolved most of the discrimination

After the Final War, Shoji became the spokesperson for the heteromorphs. Shoji had always wanted to become a hero who changed the prejudice heteromorphs faced; this is also why he chose to become a hero. Eight years after the Final War, Shoji had been collecting remarkable feats in his attempts to resolve the prejudice-based incidents regarding heteromorphs.

Since Shoji’s hero debut, he has peacefully resolved these incidents in smaller cities and towns where heteromorphs continue to be discriminated against. Although the prejudice faced by heteromorphs is still present eight years after his debut, Shoji has made remarkable progress in advocating for heteromorphs.

By becoming a spokesperson for heteromorphs, Shoji brought to light the discrimination they face daily in smaller cities. In this way, not only is he advocating for the rights of prejudiced heteromorphs but also highlighting the fact that discrimination is not something that should be overlooked as it breeds hatred and resentment from both parties involved.

While Shoji hasn’t been able to eradicate the prejudice heteromorphs face entirely, he has resolved many incidents. As a result of his efforts, achievements, and influence, Shoji earned an Imamura Peace Prize awardin Chapter 430; with this prize, Shoji dedicated it to those who revolted in the Final War eight years prior. Although incidents haven’t been wholly eradicated, Shoji certainly diminished and resolved much of the prejudice that heteromorphs faced.

Cast

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the “One-For-All” quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
