Netflix Provides Update on Fear Street: Prom Queen
Netflix is preparing to make areturn toFear Streetwith a new film, titledFear Street: Prom Queen. The streamer recently revealed the poster and release window for the newFear Streetfilm, with the movie set to debut sometime in 2025. The poster forFear Street: Prom Queenechoes the pulpy horror covers of R.L. Stine’s novels, showing a school billboard that reads “Shadyside High School Senior Prom ‘88”, with the letters ‘D’, ‘I’, ‘E’ highlighted to spell out ‘die’. Beneath the sign is a blood-stained axe.
The film will seeminglynot be a direct sequel or prequel to theFear Streettrilogyand instead draws from R.L. Stine’s 1992 novel,The Prom Queen. It takes place in Shadyside during the high school prom night in 1988. Netflix’sTudumrevealedFear Street: Prom Queenwill include the “It Girls” of Prom Night who are campaigning to be crowned Queen. However, when an outsider is nominated for Prom Queen and the other entrants start disappearing, it makes for “one hell of a prom night”.
When a gutsy outsider is unexpectedly nominated to the court, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.
Fear Street: Prom Queen Has A New Cast
The cast forFear Street Prom Queenincludes notable names Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Katherine Waterston (Alien: Covenant), and Lili Taylor (Outer Range), along with fresher faces India Fowler (The Nevers), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls), Suzanna Son (The Idol), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), and Ella Rubin (The Idea of You). The new Netflix horror film is being directed by Matt Palmer, who co-wrote the movie with Donald McLeary.
The ending ofFear Street: 1666did involve a teaser that could lead to some of the evil deeds set to transpire inFear Street: Prom Queen. The post-credits scene showed an unnamed figure take the widow’s satanic book from where it wasleft long ago by Sarah Fier. The newFear Street: Prom Queenfilm will take place in 1988, which is slightly afterFear Street: Part Two, but prior to the events ofFear Street: Part One, which means it could act as something of an intermediary for the events of both films, albeit with new characters. Netflix is yet to announce when in 2025 exactly the fourthFear Streetfilm will be released butthe movies have not been tied to the Halloweenhorror season in the past, meaning it could be released at any time.
