WhenFallout 76was first released, it was the subject of much controversy in the gaming community. Despite the concept of aFallout-themed MMO sounding very promising, the game failed to truly capitalize on its potential.Fallout 76was not only utterly devoid of content, it was also in a state of technical disarray that put even the likes ofCyberpunk 2077to shame. The game’s poor launch significantly hurt the reputation of its developer, Bethesda Game Studios, and it failed to attract a large player base early on in its life. Following the release of some major content updates, however, things started to change inFallout 76for the better.

Six years after its troubled launch,Fallout 76is in a better state than it’s ever been before. What was oncea desolate multiplayer gameis now a thriving MMO with a passionate and active fanbase. In fact,Fallout 76is so popular nowadays that it has a functioning virtual economy and a large community of players who are dedicated to trading items in the game.Fallout 76, like most other big-budget MMOs, has received an endless amount of cosmetics, weapons, and armor sets through the many updates that it has received. Some of these in-game items are rarer than others and are thus highly sought after in theFallout 76community. While a handful of the valuable items have been made easier to obtain in later updates, there is one cosmetic that is still really hard to get.

The Princess Backpack is Currently One of the Rarest Items in Fallout 76

Princess Backpacks Were Added in Fallout 76’s Once in a Blue Moon Update

In June 2023, Bethesda releasedthe Once in a Blue Moon update forFallout 76, which added, among other things, a new cosmetic item to the game called the Princess Backpack. As its name might suggest, the Princess Backpack has a largely pink color scheme with a bunch of cutesy decals on top. Although the item’s design doesn’t appeal to everyone, it is highly sought-after in theFallout 76community due to its immense rarity.

Princess Backpacks Can Only Be Obtained During a Special Limited-Time Event

Like with many cosmetic items inFallout 76,players need to obtain a Backpack Mod Planin order to craft and acquire a Princess Backpack. Getting the plan for this item isn’t an easy task, however. The Princess Backpack Plan only appears in the seasonal Spooky Scorched community event, which typically takes place in late October and early November each year. During the periods that this event is available, players need to kill some Spooky Scorched enemies to get a Spooky Treat Bag. When opened, these treat bags can grant players unique rewards, one of them being a Princess Backpack Plan.

While acquiring a Princess Backpack Plan may seem easy at first, it’s a lot harder than it actually sounds. Players have only a 15% chance of receiving a rare Plan byopening a Spooky Treat Bag. This means that, most of the time, they will get uncommon rewards, candy, and ammo instead. To make matters worse, the Princess Backpack Plan, in particular, has an incredibly low drop rate, so players will likely have to consume a lot of Spooky Treat Bags in order to get it.

The Chances of Getting a Princess Backpack Plan Are Pretty Low

During the 2023 Spooky Scorched event, the Princess Backpack Plan could only be found in 0.577% of Spooky Treat Bags. At the time, if a player used the Plan to craft a Princess Backpack, they would no longer be able to procure the item from other Treat Bags. This meant that players could pretty much do only one of two things with the Plan: either use it to craft the backpack or sell it to someone else. Fortunately, the odds of receiving a Princess Backpack Plan were increased to 1.07% for the 2024 event, but the item was still incredibly hard to get. It’s possible that Bethesda will make the Princess Backpack easier to obtain inFallout 76’s Spooky Scorched eventthis year, but until then, the only real way to get the item is by paying an arm and a leg for it in a trade with another player.
