Summary

The Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushima 2have a lot to live up to, especially since their presence in the first title garnered a lot of love from fans. They are technically side quests, but the gear they offer as rewards are easily some of the best in the game. Developer Sucker Punch Productions took a clear stance on quality-first with the Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushima, choosing not to litter the map with them as may have happened in other titles.

These special side quests delve into Japanese mythology. Not only do they showcase interesting visual design via Japanese brushwork, but they aptly weave engaging myths into the gameplay. This type of side quest is but one feature that arguably makes this title one of thebest story-driven games of all time. Hence, Sucker Punch can’t afford to skip adding Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushima 2, especially with endless creative possibilities and tons of Japanese myths still left to choose from.

Why Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima 2 Are An Absolute Necessity

InGhost of Tsushima, players initiate Mythic Tales after interacting with certain musicians. The stories are not related toGhost of Tsushima’s protagonist, Jin Sakai, but are born from years worth of storytelling and myths as was the case in old times. This gives them a breather from the main campaign, which can naturally be intriguing but quite intense at times.

These tales also have players explore locations that they probably wouldn’t have thought about. This helps them take in more of the island that they may have otherwise missed, while also helping them understand how the people and Japanese culture functioned at the time. There is also a good chunk of difficult combat present, allowing many players to feel justifiably proud when they finally manage to get the loot.Ghost of Tsushima 2’s story may allow for different combat mechanics, but it’s unlikely that fights in these side quests will become easy.

All these gameplay elements are great, but perhaps the best part about the Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushimais the art style that’s used to convey the myths. It’s highly reflective of Japanese culture and is done as beautifully as the rest of the game. The meticulous details in the brush strokes, the animation design, and the way the musicians' dialogues flow is sublime, to say the least. Given the love from fans, it’s quite likely that Sucker Punch will evolve the wayGhost of Tsushima 2’s Mythic Tales will play out. What is known for sure is this: the sequel cannot afford to miss out on this type of quest.

Potential Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima 2 That Can Serve as the Next Evolution

Although the Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushimaare independent, they could be more engaging if at least a few are tied to each other. For example, the series could start off with the tale of Uchide-no-kozuchi, creator of a legendary mallet that can produce anything. This could be needed to create an exceptionally light but strong set of armor, much likeAltair’s in theAssassin’s Creedseries, that would give players more movement speed on land and in water.

This, in turn, would enable them to complete a Mythic Tale based on the legend of Urashima Taro and Otohime, the daughter of the Emperor of the Sea, Ryujin. There, they might have to get a special weapon from a hidden cave, much like theBlack Hand Riku Mythic Tale for the Sarugami armor. The new armor could become crucial when players have to travel underwater in places where they’re attacked by carnivorous fish and sea snakes. Adequate protection and being quick enough to not drown midway would go a long way.

This could lead into the final Mythical Tale of the set inGhost of Tsushima 2, which could draw upon the legend of Ibaraki-doji. This mountain of a man would be blocking access to the only land that produces the medicinal herbs that Tsushima’s people need. He would agree to trade the herbs in exchange for the special weapon that players received earlier, but then deceive and try to kill them. Here the challenge could be that players have to master the weapon and map out the boss' attack pattern to learn his technique and turn it around on him. This could play out like the battle against Khotun Khan, one of thehardest bosses inGhost of Tsushima. Overall, Mythic Tales inGhost of Tsushima 2will easily be worth their weight in gold, whether the developer chooses to take the independent route or evolve them into something spectacular.
