Summary

Mojang Studios hasn’t added significant changes toMinecraft’s Nether dimension in a while, preferring to focus on the Overworld instead. This has naturally left the gameplay in the fiery dimension feeling a bit stale and repetitive. It is not yet known what the next update will bring, but perhaps it’s time that Mojang looks towards an oldMinecraftfeature fromPocket Editionfor inspiration. This can help refresh the gameplay as well as add another element for modders to tinker with.

The Nether Reactor was exclusive toMinecraft:Pocket Editionbefore the Nether was officially added to it. Its purpose was fairly simple: it helped players generate a chunk of the Nether in the Overworld since they couldn’t travel to the dimension at the time. Many new players may have no clue what the Nether Reactor is, which is easily explained as it is one of therecipes that was removed fromMinecraftyears ago. It still remains inaccessible by most means. Although thisMinecraft: Pocket Editionfeature had a different purpose at the time, the next Nether-focused content update should overhaul its function to enliven the sandbox title’s gameplay.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition’s Removed Nether Reactor Can Help Revitalize the Dimension

The Nether Reactor inMinecraft: Pocket Editionallowed players to experience the dangerous dimension in the only way possible, considering the game’s development stage and the platform’s technological limitations at the time. This piece of tech could be assembled in the Overworld, and when done, it would spawn in a Netherrack Spire, with the players in a room on the inside. It would alsobring in Piglin Zombiesand loot (some of which was Nether-based).

If Mojang brings thisMinecraft: Pocket Editionfeature back, it should do so by refreshing the block’s function. Since players can now easily enter the Nether dimension, the tech should be tweaked to bring in additional features or change the landscape like earlier, but in a different manner altogether.

One great alteration would be that the reactor could be assembled in two or more ways inMinecraft’s Nether dimension, with each having its own function. One assembly, for example, could help players quickly erect a shield or force field and thus allow for a safe area to conduct their operations. Another manner of assembly could help them spawn difficult-to-get items, like Wither Skeleton Skulls,Blaze Rods, or even Ancient Debris.

If Mojang chooses to revitalizeMinecraft: Pocket Edition’s Nether Reactor in this manner, it should add other features alongside it. This would help maintain an appropriate level of challenge and ensure the reactor doesn’t just become a device that helps fans cheese through the Nether dimension.

How a Future Minecraft Update Can Revitalize the Nether

Mojang can revamp a great chunk ofhowMinecraft’s Nether dimension worksby adding suitable changes alongside the Nether Reactor. Since the reactor’s origins are tied to Piglin Zombies and the construction of a Netherrack Spire, the added changes could be an evolution along these lines. Mojang can add new Piglin-themed structures that have a puzzling layout. At the end, there could be a small boss fight that would reward the player with the Nether Reactor Core and a Redstone circuit blueprint that’s now needed to get it up and running.

The developer has no shortage of ideas, but oneMinecraftMob Vote loser, the Wildfire, may just be the best creature here. Its airborne design and regenerating health and shields may make things tricky enough, forcing fans to weigh their options: take the standard, long-winded route through the Nether or make it through the puzzling layout and face the Wildfire. If Mojang sweetens the deal with new types of loot, the Nether’s “revamp” may be the talk of the town for a while to come.

This could be just like the Trial Chambers, introduced via theMinecraft1.21 Tricky Trials update, but in a fire and brimstone environment that may make things way more thrilling.
