Yet another newOverwatch 2game mode is coming in Season 12. At the start of the season,Overwatch 2will be adding Clash, along with two maps inspired by Temple of Anubis and Hanamura. While manyOverwatch 2fans will be happy to have a new game mode to play, others will be glad to hear of the big change coming to Flashpoint that should address some complaints that fans have had about it.
As revealed by Blizzard,Overwatch 2will be making a big change to Flashpoint with the launch of Season 12. For the uninitiated, Flashpoint is a newer game mode that has players battling it out over specified areas on what are the hero-shooter’s biggest maps. Some have complained that it takes too long to go from spawn to a point in Flashpoint, and so Blizzard will be adding speed boosts to all Flashpoint exits. Speed boost will be capped at 75%, so players shouldn’t expect to stack Lucio’s speed boost to get an unfair advantage. The speed boost from spawn will also be switched off whenever players deal or take damage, so it shouldn’t have a major impact on combat.

Another major new change coming toOverwatch 2in Season 12 is Competitive Drives, though players will have to wait until the end of the season to test them out. The game’s first Competitive Drive event will start “near the end of the season” and will give players opportunities to earn rewards by winning Comp matches. Comp wins will give players progress to Checkpoints, with those Checkpoints includingrewards like Competitive Pointsand Signatures (special BattleTag frames).
Overwatch 2Season 12 will also introduce changes to the Avoid List. Now players will be able to pin three players that they can permanently avoid. The other Avoid Slots time out after a week. It’s no secret thatOverwatch 2can be an incredibly toxic experience, especially in Competitive Play, and so this should definitely help players have a more pleasant time with the game.
Like with Season 9, Blizzard will be doing a “soft” Rank Reset at the start ofOverwatch 2Season 12. Players won’t be starting completely from scratch when it comes to the game’s matchmaking, of course, but this should still make for some interesting placement matches. Since Season 12 is introducing changes like the new Clash game mode and various hero balance tweaks, Blizzard feels as though it’s an opportune time to do another soft rank reset. It sounds like players are generally going to end up with higher ranks this time around due to some of the tweaks that Blizzard is making to the system, but players will have to do their placements starting August 20 to see how it all shakes out.
