Summary

The originalOverwatchnever had any crossover skins, but they’ve been coming toOverwatch 2for years now. Since launch,Overwatch 2has added skins and other content based onCowboy Bebop,Diablo, LE SSERAFIM, LEGO,One Punch Man, Porsche,StarCraft,Transformers, andWarcraft, with the latest collab being the hit anime/manga seriesMy Hero Academia. I haven’t always been impressed with theOverwatch 2crossover skins, but I think that theMy Hero Academiacollab is easily one of the best that the hero-shooter has done so far.

TheOverwatch 2xMy Hero Academiacollab is currently live in the game and will remain so until October 30. While the collab is live,Overwatch 2players have the opportunity to purchaseMy Hero Academiaskins from the store, with Deku Tracer, Uravity Juno, All Might Reinhardt, Shigaraki Reaper, and Toga Kiriko all available for individual purchase or as a bundle. There are also free sprays thatOverwatch 2players can unlock by completingspecialMy Hero Academiachallenges.

From the jump, I have been hugely impressed with theOverwatch 2My Hero Academiaskins. I found theOne Punch ManandCowboy Bebopskinsto be somewhat lacking, but theMy Hero Academiacollab is much like theTransformerscrossover in that it does a great job of capturing the unique likeness of the licensed characters while the heroes remain firmly recognizable as who they’re supposed to be in-game. It also helps that withMy Hero Academiastill airing new episodes and having a new movie in theaters, it feels a bit more culturally relevant than the previous anime crossover events.

Name Cards

TheOverwatch 2xMy Hero Academiaskins are excellent, but they’re just the tip of the iceberg. If players decide to buy theMy Hero AcademiaMega Bundle for 5,700Overwatch Coins($49.99), they get a ton of additional content for their money. This includes some awesome voice lines that are references to the anime/manga, emotes, highlight intros, and more. As far as cosmetic bundles go, theOverwatch 2xMy Hero AcademiaMega Bundle definitely gives consumers bang for their buck.

That being said, the crossover isn’t perfect. While players do indeed get a lot for $49.99, there’s no getting around the fact that $49.99 could get gamers entire video games instead of a bundle of cosmetics for a free-to-play live-service game. The individualMy Hero Academiaskinscost about $20 a pop, which is still a lot for cosmetics. The bundle definitely gives players their money’s worth compared to pastOverwatch 2crossovers, but these prices are still too high.

I also think it was a missed opportunity that no one seems to have a proper voice line where they yell “SMASH!” like Deku and All Might do when hitting enemies with their signature attacks. There’s a theory that such a line was meant to replace Reinhardt’s “HAMMER DOWN!” Ultimate line because of a bug where theAll Might skin seemingly says nothing when performing his Ult. If that’s true, one would think it would have been fixed by now. All Might Reinhardt does say “Texas Smash!” as part of his “Hammer Down!” Highlight Intro, but it doesn’t hit quite the same.

So, whileOverwatch 2’s crossover withMy Hero Academiaisn’t perfect, it’s still quite easily one of the best collabs that the hero shooter has done so far. I was also impressed with theTransformerscollab from last season, and so these crossovers are on a bit of a roll. I can’t wait to see what’s next and ifOverwatch 2Season 14 has its own crossover event on deck.
