Summary
Newcomers toOverwatch 2might be itching to get in some hits as a damage hero or charge the front lines as a tank, but they may also want to try their hand at using a support hero, as they are thebackbone of any team composition.
Some supports can be tricky for players to get used to, especially those who are new to the game. Supports that only have a certain amount of healing at a time or who need to recharge between healing spells are particularly taxing, so beginners may have an easier time getting used to the support role with heroes who can heal non-stop.
With this in mind, we will be looking at five support heroes that are well suited to beginners thanks to their non-stop healing and ease of use as a whole, including any other abilities they might have.
5Zenyatta
Become One With The Iris
Zenyatta isn’t the easiest Support hero to get to grips with, but he is definitely better for beginners in comparison to healers like Illari or Ana. Zen can throw out healing harmony orbs to allies and discord orbs to enemies, making them more susceptible to damage. His orbs can only target one ally and enemy at a time, but there is no recharge for them, so players can switch between harmony and discord orbs relatively quickly.
Zen’s ultimateis very easy to use, which is sure to be a bonus for beginners. When using Transcendence, Zenyatta becomes invulnerable for six seconds. Any allies within a 10.5-meter radius of him will be healed and have negative status effects removed. All the player has to do is position Zenyatta in the most appropriate place and use the ult. They can still move around when the ult is active, which is useful if he needs to move with the team.
The ease of use of his ultimate ability and the well-balanced mix of support and damage- thanks to the alternate fire on his orbs- makes Zenyatta a good choice for beginners, but not the absolute best.
4Lifeweaver
Plant Boy
Lifeweaver is a relatively new herowho was introduced inOverwatch 2. He has various abilities that involve healing, general support, and even some damage. Despite it being a little tough to get a grip on his control system, he is one of the best healers for beginners once that hurdle has been overcome.
Lifeweaver heals via his Healing Blossom, which is a projectile fired at allies. It can be completely charged up or partially charged, which can be particularly useful when an intense battle calls for quick and efficient heals, even if they aren’t as strong as fully charged heals. His healing is also unlimited, so players don’t have to worry about completely recharging, though they will need to charge themselves up a little for those aforementioned full heals.
He can also heal himself with his Rejuvenating Dash. When using this move, he dashes in the direction players are moving and heals himself as he goes, making for a great way to avoid enemy attacks and amp up his health at the same time. As well as his Healing Blossom, Lifeweaver can throw down a Petal Platform that will rise when stood on. This can be used to give allies the high ground, but it can also be used for Lifeweaver players to save themselves in a dire situation or to confuse enemies if it is thrown underneath them. Another support ability is his Life Grip, which pulls allies to his location. This can be a lifesaving skill, though it can take some time to learn how and when to use it most effectively.
Last but not least is Lifeweaver’s Thorn Volley, which does a fair amount of damage at once as he fires a barrage of thorns at the enemy. Despite the fiddly controls,Lifeweaver’s versatilityfor players of all styles and healing ability that only requires very minor charges makes him well suited to beginners, especially those who already have experience with these kinds of games.
3Kiriko
Fox Power
Kiriko is another character who can be tricky to master, but for beginners looking for support heroes who can heal without recharging, do damage, and negate negative effects, she’s a great choice.
Kirko’s healingmainly comes from the Healing Ofuda paper talismans she throws at allies. Timing and accuracy are key when using the Ofuda, as only a certain amount are thrown at a time, and they need to hit allies directly without coming into contact with terrain or objects, or else they will be destroyed. Maintaining a direct line to the rest of the team is the best way to ensure that doesn’t happen, and beginners are likely to want to stay close by to their allies anyway.
Kiriko provides a burst of healing to allies and negates any negative effects with her Protection Suzu ability, and she can also flee to her allies with Swift Step, which lets her teleport to teammates from a distance, even if they are behind a wall. She also does some damage with her Kunai weapons, in a manner that is similar to how Lifeweaver damages with his Thorn Volley.
When her Kitsune Rush ability activates, Kiriko summons her fox spirit companion who accelerates the attack speed, movement, and cooldown rate of Kiriko and any teammates within the affected area. This is another ult that doesn’t need too much thought to activate or maintain. Simply choose the best spot- usually an area with a direct line of sight to the enemy team and close to allies- and unleash the fox.
Kiriko is very dependent on her teammates, with her abilities requiring a certain closeness to allies and her Swift Step allowing her to jump to them. This is why beginners might find it useful to use her initially, as they can remain near the team and heal continuously.
2Lúcio
Breaking It Down
Lúcio was one of the original support heroes released whenOverwatchcame out in 2016, and he is certainly one of the easier supports to get to grips with. He’s fast, agile, and able to get out of tricky situations easily while healing or speeding up his teammates, so beginners are sure to feel comfortable using him.
As well as healing and boosting the team’s speed - and being able to switch between both with ease thanks to his Crossfade ability - Lúcio can fire projectiles from his Sonic Amplifier that can do a lot of damage. He doesn’t need to sacrifice his healing as he fires his projectiles either, as his healing will remain constant while the Amplifier is set to heal. Lúcio can also increase his healing and speed boosting with Amp It Up, which gives his skills a significant, temporary boost. One of Lúcio’s most popular moves is his Soundwave, which pushes enemies back with a sound blast. This can knock enemies off the map or into danger, hence why players love it so much. It’s effective and easy to use, also making it a great move for beginners to play around with.
The last move Lúcio has is his Sound Barrier ultimate, which provides 750 overhealth to him and his allies for six seconds. It might not sound like a lot of time, but it can make all the difference, especially if an enemy unleashes their ultimate at the same time. Lúcio can save the whole team if it is timed right, so it’s safe to say that it’s a highly effective skill. The fun and easy gameplay thatLúcio’s skill setoffers along with his ability to do damage while healing makes him a great healer for beginners to start practicing with.
1Mercy
Peaceful Protector
Last but not least is Mercy, who is undoubtedly the easiest support hero in the game. Mercy has a simple yet effective list of skills that beginners can sink their teeth into, but this by no means makes her ineffective in comparison to other supports.
Mercy can do a huge amount of healing, and although she does have her Caduceus Blaster that does damage, most of her skills revolve around maintaining the HP of the team. She can also boost the damage of the rest of the team and can easily switch between healing and boosting with her Caduceus Staff.
As well as this, Mercy can escape from dangerous situations quickly and efficiently thanks to her Angelic Descent ability- which lets her float to the ground slowly- and the Guardian Angel ability, which lets her fly quickly to an ally. These are both life-saving skills for Mercy herself, but they also increase her maneuverability, allowing her to save teammates from potential death too.
While we are on the subject of lifesaving, Mercy can resurrect dead teammates with her Resurrect ability. It has a significant 30-second cooldown, but it is a skill that can change the tide of a game when used efficiently. Mercy’s Valkyrie ultimate boosts all her regular skills, allowing her to fly for 15 seconds and heal/boost enemies. Her movement increases, as does the speed of the projectiles from her Caduceus Blaster. She can also chain together her healing and boost, as the beam from her staff spreads to all teammates within range.
Mercy has a simple skill setand is very easy to get to grips with, but she can also become one of the most effective healers in the game when her movement and escape abilities are used in tandem with her healing. Because of this, she wins the top spot for the best support hero forOverwatch 2beginners.
