The latest Nintendo Direct showcase revealed thatPlants vs. Zombies: Replantedwill release on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it comes with a new co-op feature. First released back in 2009,Plants vs. Zombiesgave an interesting twist to tower defense mechanics, using plants to ward off zombies.
Plants vs. Zombiessaw a lot of success on mobile and PC when it first launched over two decades ago, quickly becoming one of thebest tower defense gamesof that time. The game eventually expanded to the PlayStation and Xbox, and also received a number of sequels and spin-offs.
After rumors came out that the originalPlants vs. Zombieswas getting a reboot, it was confirmed thatPlants vs. Zombies: Replantedwill launch on June 21, 2025 on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. It will have the same fun tower defense mechanics, but with better graphics compared to the original. One of the new features highlighted in the trailer isPlants vs. Zombies: Replantedwill have local co-op and PvP.
Plants vs. Zombie’s Co-Op History
Plants vs. Zombies: Replantedwon’t be the first time that the original game will get co-op mode. In the past, co-op mode was made available inPlants vs. Zombies' PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade versions during the early 2010s. Spin-offsPlants vs. Zombies: Garden WarfareandPlants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neigborville, which are both third-person shooters, also have exciting co-op and PvP features that are ideal for more competitive players.
With the popular tower defense game coming back better than ever in a few months,Plants vs. Zombiesfans can enjoy the whimsical musicagain while battling hordes of zombies. Developer PopCap Games pulled out the third mainline game for a major overhaul after a soft launch, and there’s still no news about when it’s coming back online.
