Summary

The hotly anticipatedKaiju No. 8video game is only a few weeks away, but thanks to some recent trailers, fans have gotten to see a few more favorite characters from the anime in action. While the tactical RPG-style gameplay already looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun to partake in, it’s ultimately the character roster that is going to be at the center of the experience, considering they all have drastically different weapons and abilities that they can utilize in battle.

Because these characters can all be leveled up individually, it encourages players to figure out which member of the Defense Force they like the feel of the most, so that they can then upgrade and enhance them over the course of the game. With the hype and excitement rising to a whole new level thanks to these recent trailers, it’s time to break down all the characters that have been showcased so far who are confirmed to be playable inKaiju No. 8 The Game.

Reno firing a rifle

7Reno Ichikawa

Pelt the Enemy With a Barrage of Firepower as the Immensely Talented Reno

Kafka’s best friend and the character who convinces him to kick off his journey, Reno, is going to be fully playable in the latest game, and to say he’s packing somelethal firepowerwould be putting it mildly. While it usually takes a new recruit at least a little while before they’re able to fully prove themselves as a worthy soldier, Reno was able to make a big impression on the higher ups pretty much immediately, highlighting just how dangerous he is in combat.

While he can often be seen using automatic rifles when taking to the battlefield, Reno has also been known to utilize ice bullets to freeze his enemies in place, so it will be interesting to see how these are incorporated into his playstyle. Mobile, durable, and extremely talented at taking down Kaiju, Reno is one of those characters that every fan has always wanted to play as, and now, they’ll finally get the chance to do just that.

Kokoro holding an axe with a stern face

6Kikoru Shinomiya

Time to Get Up Close and Personal With the Kaiju

Kikoru’s no-nonsense attitude makes her a ton of fun to watch anytime she shows up in the main story, especially when she also comes equipped with her giant axe, which works wonders at slicing giant Kaiju down to size. Considering Kikoru is a very important character to the wider story, it was a given that she would end up appearing as a playable member of the cast in the new game, but it’s also clear that a lot of work has gone into ensuring that her fiery attitude and fighting style have been perfectly replicated in battle.

In the trailers, Kikoru can be seen leaping into battle andlunging her axe aroundlike there’s no tomorrow, which is no doubt going to be a playstyle that will catch the eyes of many players. One of Kafka’s closest friends will be joining in for this new batch of battles, and it doesn’t seem like she’s going to be playing around either.

Hoshia slicing apart an enemy

5Soshiro Hoshina

Slice and Dice Enemies With Lethal Precision

It’s not uncommon to hearKaiju No. 8fans say that Hoshina is their favorite character in the series, and it’s honestly not hard to see why when seeing this guy in action. Hoshina isabsolutely lethal when it comes to close-quarter combat, and the good news is that his effortlessly stylish and flashy fighting style has remained fully intact for the game. As someone who enjoys taking down his opponents as quickly as possible, it seems highly likely that Hoshina’s game plan is going to revolve around utilizing his mobility to help outmaneuver the enemy monsters before then landing a lethal strike.

On the other hand, though, this could also end up making him a little less durable than the others, making him somewhat of a glass cannon in the process. However he turns out in the game, one thing is for sure: Hoshina is going to be an absolute blast to play as for anyone who loves pulling off big and epic combo attacks with only a few button presses.

Isao firing up his gauntlets

4Isao Shinomiya

Isao is Ready to Put the Devastating Number 2 Gauntlets to Good Use

Isao may no longer be in his prime, but that doesn’t mean he’s still not able to fill a Kaiju full of holes with a barrage of overwhelming punches. The main source of Isao’s strength is his gauntlets, which channel the energy ofKaiju Number 2, so it’s fair to say that these things can deal a significant amount of explosive damage with only a few hits. Though he was only recently introduced in the anime, Isao has still earned a spot as a playable character in theKaiju No. 8game, and, of course, he’s bringing his deadly set of weaponry along with him for the ride.

Considering how immensely strong Isao has been shown to be in the main story, to try out this guy’s abilities and attacks on enemies in real time, especially after he’s been upgraded and made to be even more powerful, is a real treat for longtime fans. As someone who is pretty important to the overall story ofKaiju No. 8, primarily because of his relationship with Kikoru, it’s great to see him showing up for the latest adventure.

Mina holding a cannon

3Mina Ashiro

The Defense Force’s Star Soldier Is Ready to Blow the Kaiju Away With Heavy Weaponry

you may’t have aKaiju No. 8game without featuring one of the Defense Force’s very best and most talented soldiers, Mina Ahsiro. As anyone who has watched or read the series will know very well, Mina is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to taking down Kaiju, the reason being the fact that she’s a master at utilizing ranged weaponry to obliterate any monsters who are brave (or foolish) enough to stand in her way.

Thankfully, Mina is going to be keeping her iconic cannon for the game, but she’s also got her lovable white tiger to give her backup too. Anyone who likes the idea of blasting Kaiju into small meat chunks with only a handful of shots will definitely want to give Mina a go after booting up the game and landing on the character select screen.

Gen looking at the camera

2Gen Narumi

The Defense Force’s Finest Is Here to Show What He’s Made of

The Defense Force is made up of some extremely powerful and dangerous Kaiju hunters, but Gen is often considered to be the strongest soldier they have, and there are a few reasons why this is the case. Not only was Genmentored by Isao Shinomiya, the Director of the Defense Force, but he’s also comfortable using the outer-shell light spectacles to analyze the brain impulses of his enemies, essentially giving him the ability to read every attack before the enemy even throws them out.

He may be extremely overpowered, but that’s arguably a big reason why Gen needed to be a playable character, since it’s evident that many fans would love to utilize his incredible powers and attacks first-hand. If anything, though, he will probably need to be nerfed a little in order to help balance the playing field, which just goes to show how strong this guy truly is in the main story.

Kafka in Kaiju mode

1Kafka Hibino

Kaiju No. 8 Has Arrived to Cause Some Carnage

Kafka may look like any ordinary guy on the surface, but the reason he is considered such a valuable asset to the Defense Force is because of his ability to turn into a Kaiju. Kafka has utilized hisunderlying powerto eliminate his fair share of vicious monsters throughout the series, and players will have the chance to give these powers a spin for themselves if they choose to select Kafka in the game. In the anime series and the manga, Kafka’s fight scenes are known for being very over-the-top and explosive, and it seems as though the developers have made a big attempt to replicate this in the game, as the animations for his attacks look downright stunning.

Kafka may not be all that fond of using standard weaponry, but he’s an absolute powerhouse when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, which ultimately makes him the brawler of the group.Kaiju Number 8himself will be jumping into the fray to duke it out with a fresh swarm of monsters once again. Only this time, players will have full control over his actions, allowing them to take down their foes in any way they desire.
