Summary
APokemonfan has created four new fusions combining Gengar with other Pokemon. The unique designs are gaining praise from the community for their creativity and the idea of what it would be like if these Gengar were introduced in an actualPokemongame.
Pokemonfusionsare seemingly more popular than ever. This type of fanart sees fans take two Pokemon and combine them into one cohesive creature that has qualities of both of its parts. Part of the fun is combining Pokemon that make perfect sense together or two that seemingly have nothing in common yet work together when fused. While taking two random Pokemon and putting them together like this has never been a facet of the official titles, it’s nonetheless a concept that many fans enjoy.
Now,Pokemonfan and artist Versiris has shared their four Gengar fusions with the world. The four are named Trapped Soul, Patchwork Puppet, Mummy’s Curse, and Candle Wick, combining Gengar with Spiritomb, Banette, Cofagrigus, and Litwick, respectively. Trapped Soul gives Gengar the same coloring and pattern as Spiritomb, and it appears to be attached to a stone just like its counterpart. Patchwork Puppet has a similar appearance to a Banette-themedcostume Gengar had inPokemon GO, which was intentional on the artist’s part. Mummy’s Curse incorporates the ancient Egyptian-style headdress that’s part of the sarcophagus-like Cofagrigus design, and Candle Wick looks like a partially-melted Gengar candle, with the same eye hidden as Litwick.
Gengar Fusions Excite Fans
Pokemonfans have been enthusiastic about the designs, with each of them receiving compliments from multiple users. Some noted that although there are similarities between Versiris' Patchwork Puppet andPokemon GO’s Banette/Gengar design, several prefer Versiris' design. Others were excited by the prospect of the typing for some of these, like the idea of Gengar becoming a Ghost/Fire-type. It was also suggested that these would work well in thePokemon Infinite Fusion fan game, should the user be so inclined.
With Gengar’s lasting popularity amongPokemonfans and the spooky holiday season rapidly approaching, there’s hardly a better time to share creations like these. Gengar has gotten a lot of attention from the official game developers, getting a Gigantamax version as well as aMega Evolutionover the years. While these designs will remain in the realm of fan creations, it will be interesting to see if Gengar receives any further updates down the line as one of the Gen 1’s most memorable Pokemon and original Ghost-types.
