Summary
For the last few years, thePokemonWorld Championships have usually brought with it some important announcements such as previews for upcoming titles, DLC, and updates for important relevant games likePokemon Unite. These announcements are usually catered to the competitive side of the franchise, like revealingitems like Room Servicethat are designed to change up how previous strategies worked in other titles and more — which makesPokemon GOa rather important title to include as the mobile game has been constantly evolving since its release in 2016.
Considering just how many creatures, gimmicks, and strategies there are to adapt to a game that merges the real world with the fictional pocket monster-filled one, it’s understandable that Niantic chose a drip-feed approach when adding things toPokemon GOover the years. Making sure all six generations — at the time ofGO’s selective launch — had their place in the game would have been a near-impossible daunting task if the development company didn’t focus on the original 150 to start with. It also gave Niantic a way to have content for future updates with ease as this meant they could add Pokemon, events, and gimmicks over time, but some were given better treatment than others.
Generation 8 Fans Have Waited Five Long Years for Dynamax, Gigantamax, and More in Pokemon GO
The Galar Region Has Been Skipped Over For the Last Five Years of Updates
Generation 8’s presence inPokemon GOis rather strange since the game set a precedent thatnewer Pokemon will be added to celebrate recent game releases, but Galar currently sits as the one region with the least amount of representation. Almost all the Generation 8 creatures inPokemon GOare regional forms, with some dating back to 2019 because they were added to promotePokemon SwordandShieldwhen they were first released. Due to this, many players were reasonably excited for potential events that tied closely to Galar, its Pokedex, and its Dynamax gimmick only for those features and critters to be left out as other regions shared the spotlight.
While Mega Evolution is currently the only battle gimmick inPokemon GO, it’s understandable as to why the lack of Dynamax in particular has been frustrating after the regional forms of Kanto region creatures were added for marketing purposes and nothing else followed. Not even the Scorbunny, Grookey, and Sobble evolutionary lines are in the game yet when every other starter line, including Paldea’s, can be found while players are out and about with ease. Despite introducing regional forms so Paldea’s Pokemon could be added to the gameduring Generation 9’s lifecycle, fans of Galar have been left waiting so long that nowPokemon SwordandShieldare celebrating their fifth anniversary this year.
Why Pokemon Sword and Shield Fans Should Keep Their Eyes on the Pokemon World Championships 2024
Thankfully for the fans of Dynamax and Gigantamax, or just Galar in general, the feature has been teased throughPokemon GO’s 8th anniversary artwork, and in-progress assets have been found in the game as of recent updates. It seems that the feature is finally hitting the game soon, but other assets have been found in the past that have taken years to be fully realized before. ThePokemon World Championships are the best placeto potentially announce this feature if it’s coming soon so players should keep their eyes peeled around the time of the event’s closing ceremonies.
Galar has spent quite a lot of time taking the backseat to other regions and features, and celebratingPokemon SwordandShield’s 5th anniversary is the best opportunity Niantic could use to its advantage. On top of that, there’s plenty of room for the next few seasons to focus on Galar content rather poignantly considering how much was left absent until now, which would most certainly help the celebration aspect. Hopefully, even ifDynamax, Gigantamax, and the other Galar Pokemon aren’t announced at the championships, Niantic won’t keep fans waiting much longer.
