The code cannot be used straight from the game but instead needs to beredeemed via thePokemon GOWeb Store. Niantic even added a blue variant of the same tee to the game, albeit that one isn’t available via a promo code. The only way to unlock it is to attend the three-day event and complete an exclusive Scavenger Hunt Timed Research. The mission set requires spinning several local PokeStops, completing four Great League trainer battles, powering up mons 24 times, sending four gifts with stickers, and catching 20 Fairy-type Pokemon, among several other tasks. Aside from the blue t-shirt, the Scavenger Hunt Timed Research also awards a Pikachu with a special background.

As for the players not currently in Honolulu, anyone can currently get their hands on aPokemon GO2024 World Championships Pikachuthat’s modeled after the competition’s mascot. The unique mon can be obtained as a reward for completing one of several Field Research tasks that are available for the duration of the event. Alternatively, it’s also obtainable from limited-time 1-star raids. The scuba diving Pikachu can even be shiny, although the chances of encountering its rarer variant reportedly aren’t particularly high.

Aside from gameplay bonuses like lowered trading costs and increased Stardust rewards, the ongoingPokemon GO2024 World Championships eventalso introduced a new $5 Timed Research ticket that allows players to catch a bunch of event-themed mons like Azumarill, Vigoroth, and Cresselia. Keeping in line with the competitive nature of the World Championships, the ongoing event increases the number of GO Battle League sets from five to 20 per day. Although the Honolulu competition concludes on August 18, its accompanyingPokemon GOevent will run for two more days afterward.
