Pokemon TCG Pocketquickly became one of the most successful mobile games of 2024 after its October launch, with over 10 million downloads in just two days. However, the release was not perfect, as trading has been a heavily criticized feature due to the implementation of trade tokens. Many players argued that Trade Tokens were a harsh restriction that dissuaded players from Trading frequently, and after considering player feedback, The Pokemon Company decided to discontinue Trade Tokens witha newPokemon TCG Pocketupdate. That long-awaited update will be released on July 29 at 11:00 p.m. PT / July 30 at 2:00 a.m. ET, with crucial adjustments and changes being made to trading.

Pokemon TCG Pocket July 30 Update Brings Trading Wishlist Feature and Discontinues Trade Tokens for Good
When coupled with the discontinuation of Trade Tokens, the Trading feature will be streamlined to help players trade for the cards they want. After the update’s release, players will no longer need to exchange cards in order to obtain said tokens for the purpose of Trading. Instead, Shinedust will be required for certainrarities of cards inPokemon TCG Pocket, including three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star cards. Shinedust can be acquired by completing in-game missions, earning achievements, and obtaining duplicate cards. It should be noted that any remaining Trade Tokens can be exchanged for Shinedust or 60-pack Hourglasses as well.
The long-term effects of the revised Trading system remain to be seen, but the addition of the Trading wishlist feature and removal of Trade Tokens appear to be steps in the right direction. Players will be able to test out these features with an abundance of new cards fromPokemon TCG Pocket’sWisdom of Sea and Sky expansionon July 30. The expansion brings beloved Pokemon native to the Johto region, as previously seen in thePokemon GoldandPokemon Silvervideo games. These Pokemon include Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, as well as the Legendary Pokemon Lugia and Ho-Oh.
