Almost immediately, the 2016 shooter received an influx of negative reviews, resulting in a sharp decline in the game’s rating.

Modern Warfare Remastered Plummets to Overwhelmingly Negative

While its overall rating has now dropped to mixed,Modern Warfare Remastered’s recent review badge has plummeted to overwhelmingly negative. Generally,initialModern Warfare Remasteredreviewswere positive, with the shooter having a highly respectable Metacritic score of 83. However, the shutdown of H2M has resulted in players boycotting the game and leaving a magnitude of negative reviews to voice their dissatisfaction with Activision’s handling of the situation.

Many of the negative reviews cite Activision’s lack of desire to develop an official remaster ofModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer as the reason why they were looking forward to the release of H2M. While the studio did release a remastered version of the game’s campaign in 2020, Activision confirmed it had no plans to develop amultiplayer mode forModern Warfare 2 Remastered.

Steam user chattsveryown, who was one of many users to refundModern Warfare Remasteredafter leaving a negative review, said it was “lame” that Activision would allow thousands of users to purchase the remaster, only to send a cease and desist to the mod creators after the game was no longer on sale. Another negative review from user Sad.Sponge said that it’s clear Activision only cares about the money and not the players. Even though H2M required players to own an official copy ofModern Warfare Remastered,it’s doubtful that Activision will reverse its decision and allow the mod to be released, despite the massive outcry from the community.
