Developed by Swedish studio Fatshark,Warhammer 40,000:Darktideis a fairly well-received first-person shooterthat originally debuted on PC in November 2022. It then made the jump to the Xbox Series X/S in October of the following year.
Its Xbox console exclusivity is now coming to an end, with Fatshark just announcing a PS5 version of the game. The newly revealed port is scheduled to be released on December 3, following a brief early access period. This announcement may not come as a complete surprise to the most attentive of fans, as the existence of thePS5 version ofWarhammer 40,000: Darktidewas already leakedback in September 2024, courtesy of an age rating originating from Taiwan.
Warhammer 40k: Darktide PS5 Early Access Starts This Month
The upcoming PS5 port will include all of thebalancing tweaks and other updates thatWarhammer 40,000: Darktidereceivedsince its initial release. As is the case with the existing versions of the shooter, PS5 owners will be able to choose between the base game and its Imperial Edition, priced at $39.99 and $59.99, respectively. The higher-tier package will come with several bonuses, including a six-day early access period, which is set to begin on November 27.
Other Imperial Edition goodies include the Loyalist Pack with four class outfits and 8 weapon skins, as well as an Ogryn body tattoo and a unique piece of headgear. The Mortis Veteran Portrait Frame will also be part of the $59.99 package, together with the Caducades Backpack and 2,500 Aquilas—the shooter’s premium currency that can be exchanged for a wide variety of cosmetics.
TheWarhammer 40,000: DarktidePS5 port is poised to expand the selection of compelling FPS games on Sony’s current-gen console. It could also offer a great opportunity for PlayStation users to jump into the iconic franchise, not least becauseDarktideis widely touted as one of thebest newcomer-friendlyWarhammer 40kgamesever made. In terms of critical acclaim, the game did pretty decently, as underlined by the fact that it presently boasts a “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 74 and a 60% reviewer recommendation rate. And while its lifetime Steam user reviews are currently in the “Mixed” (68.18% positive) category, partially due to some early performance issues, the PC player reviews written after the major balancing update in September have been overwhelmingly positive.
