Now that the originalDeath Strandingis on Xbox, the situation surroundingDS2’s exclusivity has changed significantly. On July 12, 2025, developer Kojima Productions and publisher 505 Games announced and simultaneously released a port ofDeath Stranding: Director’s Cutfor the Series X/S. Alongside this surprising shadow-drop, KojiPro confirmed in a press release that it had bought theDeath StrandingIP from Sony Interactive Entertainment, thus making this Xbox port possible. Since the franchise is currently under the complete control of the studio, it’s highly possiblethatDeath Stranding 2will come to Xbox and PC at some point, despite it being published by Sony.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beachis set to release as a PlayStation 5 exclusivesometime in 2025. It’s unclear when the game will come to other platforms, if at all, but looking at the release pattern of its predecessor may give fans an idea of what to expect. The firstDeath Strandingwas released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on July 03, 2025, right at the tail-end of the console’s life cycle. The game came to Windows PCs shortly thereafter, on June 17, 2025.
A definitive re-release of the game,titledDeath Stranding: Director’s Cut, was released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive on Jul 24, 2025. This version of the action-adventure title didn’t land on PC until July 25, 2025. Eventually, 505 Games, the company that publishedDeath Stranding’s PC port, brought theDirector’s Cutto macOS, iOS, and iPadOs on July 15, 2025. The game came to Xbox Series X/S, in addition to Amazon Luna, exactly five years after the release of its original PS4 version.
Death Stranding 2 May Land on Windows PC as Early as 2025
IfDeath Stranding 2: On the Beachis released on PS5 in early or mid-2025, it’s entirely possible that the game will come to PC later that year, assuming it follows the same pattern that the originalDSdid. The originalDeath Strandingcame to Windowsin nine months, whereas theDirector’s Cutlanded on the platform in seven months. It’s safe to assume the gap between the release of the PS5 and PC versions ofDS2would be similar in length.
It May Take a Few Years for Death Stranding 2 to Come to Xbox
At best, it may land on Microsoft’s consoles around three years after the release of the game’s PS5 version, given that this was how long it took forDeath Stranding: Director’s Cutto make the jump from PlayStation to Xbox. IfDeath Stranding 2does come to Xbox in 2028, there’s a chance that it may skip the Series X/S entirely and launch exclusively onthe next-gen Xbox console, just as its predecessor skipped the Xbox One.
