Summary
Unique skins have been a big part ofMortal Kombat 1’s invasions, and future seasons will need some interesting themes of their own. To date, every season of Invasions inMortal Kombat 1has had a theme for its skins, some simply following a common color scheme, while others are much more detailed. Ensuing seasons are going to need distinctive skin themes of their own to offer. Thankfully, most of the cast have potential for solid themes.
The more distinctive skins that can be earned from Invasions always have something to do with the spotlight character. The season based onMortal Kombat 1’s version of Reptile, for instance, granted some characters skins with scales and snake-like eyes. Similarly, Nitara’s season featured bloodstained outfits, and Raiden’s featured plenty of lightning motifs. Almost every character on the roster has some trait that could be used for their own line of skins. That means that future Invasions seasons have plenty of fuel for rewards.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasions Cosmetics Are Best When They Recreate the Spotlight Character’s Vibe
Johnny Cage Can Provide Some Outfits Fit For a Star
Quirky actor Johnny Cage stands out among a cast of otherworldly martial artists and warriors, and he lends himself to an easy aesthetic. Johnny’s Hollywood background could be adapted to a line of skins with star-studded patterns and motifs. In addition, since his sunglasses are a part of what makesMortal Kombat’s Johnny Cageso iconic, his skins could grant characters their own pairs of shades. Since Johnny’s a big star, it only makes sense for his outfits to reflect that.
Sindel Can Share Her Iconic Style With the Other Fighters
The empress of Outworld, Sindel, is known for her fearsome scream and her luxurious, dangerous hair. The latter is a perfect detail for a line of cosmetics. Once Sindel’s season comes around, seeing characters garbed in royal purple is a natural choice. However, the hairstyles of the various fighters could also replicate her classic black-and-white hair, while potentially being longer and more luxurious. It would be a fitting tribute to the warrior who uses her hair as a weapon.
Since Several Invasions cosmetics have already added notable hairstyle changes, both in coloration and cut, the argument for taking inspiration from Sindel’s hairstyle is particularly strong.
Ashrah Can Provide a Fashionable Mix of Light and Darkness
Ashrah deserves a bigger role inMortal Kombat 2, but she already has a perfect aesthetic. Her combination of demonic and divine is an easy inspiration for excellent skin concepts. The saintly gold-white colors of her outfit could be combined with demon-like features, such as horns, facial markings, and Ashrah’s own solid black eyes, to give other characters a striking makeover. Ashrah’s eventual season should provide a collection of outfits that blend light with darkness for phenomenal looks.
Reiko Can Add a Selection of Aggressive Skins
As a vicious soldier loyal to General Shao, Reiko is not an especially complicated character. However, he does have a good gimmick for Invasion skins at the ready. His addition toMortal Kombat 1’s list of outfitscould involve copious amounts of war paint similar to what he himself wears. In addition, the characters' outfits could also be adorned with a few additional spikes. With these adjustments, some Reiko-themed outfits would make any character on the roster look ready for war.
Quan Chi Can Provide His Own Set of Ominous Skins
Quan Chi may not have been in the base roster, but since he regularly appears as an enemy in Invasions, he’s fair game for a season of his own. It helps that he has a perfect cosmetic gimmick. Dark Fighters could emulate Quan Chi’s eerie vibes with face paint and painted-on occult symbols similar to the sorcerer’s own. Players had to wait forMortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat packfor Quan Chi to join the fight. However, that doesn’t mean that he can’t provide a fantastic set of Invasions skins.
