A lot has changed forDragon Age: The Veilguardwhen compared to some of the previous entries in the franchise. For starters, the combat is a lot more action-focused, and this can make a massive difference tohow players will experience the gamedepending on which class they choose to use.
There are 3 choices available in terms of classes, with players able to choose between a Mage, a Rogue, or a Warrior archetype — each of which will have 3 specializations to devolve into. Another factor which can affect how players experience the game will come with whichplatform they have chosen— as only PC players will be able to try the game with a mouse and keyboard.
Choosing The Mage In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Players will have a lot ofburning questions about the game, with one being which classes they should consider. Mages will have access to many different kinds of elements, such as fire, electricity and ice spells — which can allow them to deal out damage from a safe distance while their companions soak up the aggro.
They are not helpless when an enemy gets up in their face, as they have numerous melee options for when the need arises.Davrin and Taashare some great choices for tanky companions. The Mage’s Specializations areDeath Caller, Evoker and Spellblade.
It is worth noting that Dwarves are a race thatcannot use magicin the game, and players looking to play this class will want to play one of the other options.
Death Caller
This specialization synergizes best with theMourn Watch faction, something worth considering during character creation. This is a great option for players that want to be a bit more tanky, as it will let them drain the health of their opponents to top up their own missing HP. While they have an excess of health, they can use this as a resource to deal out additional necrotic damage to their foes.
Evoker
This specialization synergizes best with theShadow Dragons faction. There are various elements present in the game, but Envokers put a great deal of focus on ice damage. This specialization works wonders for players wanting to deal with groups of enemies thanks to their crowd control and AoE attacks. These can be visually stunning and players may want tomake use of the Photo Modeto capture some impressive images to use as backgrounds. Freezing helps make single target enemies much more susceptible to damage from Evoker’s allies on the frontlines, allowing for some great party synergy.
Spellblade
This specialization synergizes best with theAntivan Crows faction. Players that love playing a spellcaster but want to be on the frontlines themselves should consider a Spellblade. This can let them change up the types of companions they use for a different playstyle while still having plenty of ranged spell options. This Specialization is the final option for Mages with a focus on electricity damage. Players might be wondering where the fire specialization option is, but that lies with a different class specialization entirely — the Warrior.
Choosing The Warrior In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
It is no surprise that this class choice will be the most tanky of the three, which is one of the key traits for any frontliner. This is a great choice for players that love to be right up in the action and issuing commands to their companions to help support them on the frontline of combat. Some great companions to assist a warrior are Harding, Neve, and Bellara. The Warrior’s Specializations areChampion, Reaper and Slayer.
Champion
This specialization synergizes best with theGrey Wardens faction. Champions rally their allies around them while serving as an impregnable tank. This is the most tanky a player can make a character, and the ideal choice for players wishing to replay the game at its hardest difficulty settings. In addition to having massive survivability, they can buff their allies and are capable of delivering mighty finishing blows to enemies at critical health.
Reaper
This specialization synergizes best with theMourn Watch faction. Reapers can use their own health as a resource to deal out additional necrotic damage, similar to Death Callers. This class is great at weakening enemies while soaking up aggro for their allies to land decisive hits against them.
Slayer
This specialization synergizes best with theLords of Fortune faction. Players that want to put all their eggs in a single basket may want to try out the Slayer. This is the least tanky of the Warrior classes, but can really rack up high damage numbers and makes use offire elemental damage. It is comparable to playing a rogue with less flexibility and less mobility. This gives the game a nice compromise for players that don’t quite want to play a tank, and don’t want to put as much focus on ranged gameplay as a Rogue would require.
Choosing The Rogue In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Rogues are a great blend of both melee and ranged combat and can be a very mobile class that avoids taking hits. Players can build this class in any way with companions to compliment their choice. Emmrich works really well as a companion for players getting their bearings with the rogue. Players that find this class a little tricky can look throughthe game’s accessibility options, as these offer a lot of options in aiming and combat timing. The Rogue’s Specializations areDuelist, Saboteur and Veil Ranger.
Duelist
This specialization synergizes best with theAntivan Crows faction. Duelists drive right into battle with a massive focus on melee damage and weakening their enemies. Duelists can be a very risky option but offer a very fun and rewarding sense of play.
Saboteur
This specialization synergizes best with theLords of Fortune faction. A lot of players enjoy using a trap planting style of gameplay, and this Specialization fulfills that desire. Players will focus on deploying turrets, always distancing themselves from harm, and bossing their ranged damage. This gives the Saboteur a great sense of survivability, while also keeping players alert and on their toes of where all enemies are on the battlefield.
Veil Ranger
This specialization synergizes best with theVeil Jumper faction. Players that choose a Rogue but want some magic options will want to go with the Veil Ranger specialization, as it will allow them added electricity damage. While Duelists pull rogues into melee damage output, Veil Rangers do the opposite for those who favor ranged damage output.
