This was preceded by the State of Play showcase and the related Days of Play deals that kicked off earlier that month.

ThePS Plus structurehas evolved multiple times since its inception, with various tiers of increasing price later introduced to match the greater number (and at times, the perceived desirability or quality) of titles and access to the classic catalog. For many years after the rollout of PlayStation Plus, the announcement of the upcoming Essential games would most often come on the last Wednesday of each month. The three titles themselves would then hit the service on the first Tuesday of the next month, usually being available to download starting at 1 PM EST. The Extra and Premium and inclusions came a few weeks later, around the middle of the month.
Though there have been a few deviations here and there, Sony has largely adhered to this pattern for Playstation Plus for a good while, and players have become accustomed to reliably expecting the above. But given that July’s reveals came a little earlier (though still on the normal Wednesday) and now withAugust’s PS Plus gamesbeing posted an entire day ahead, there’s the chance that this means Sony is considering altering when the reveals drop more frequently, which would be an interesting turn for the service.

By revealing them earlier, it could generate more hype ahead of time, or let fans better prepare depending on the games chosen.
