Revenge of the Savage Planetoffers four planets for players to explore, featuring environments ranging from a tropical jungle to an ice-bound volcano. There may even be more hidden planets waiting for players who successfully uncover enough secrets. There are new creatures to interact with, including a feature that allows players to capture creatures and store them in their new Habitat. The Habitat, which replaces the spaceship fromJourney to the Savage Planet,can be customized with a variety of items found around the world. As players explore, they will discover new tools and gear that can be used to interact with the world, gaining the ability to dive underwater, fly, and much more.
Revenge of the Savage Planet Focuses on Creative Solutions
WhileRevenge of the Savage Planetstill has a default gun tool that players can use to shoot things around them, that is far from the only thing available to find and use. There are lassos, whips, grappling hooks, jetpacks, and an absolute plethora of upgrades for the player’srobotic sidekick. There are even rails that players can “skateboard” down, as well as a goo gun that lets players shoot the extremely flammable goo which seems to make up many of the bizarre creatures encountered. This plethora of tools encourages players to seek creative solutions and attempt to interact with puzzles and obstacles in many different ways. That said, the old classic of “setting things on fire” makes a great fallback when more elaborate solutions fail.
The tools and upgrades are scattered throughout the game’s planets, which also encouragesreplayability in gameplay. While the planets are accessed in a linear order, players will need every tool at their disposal to find each secret the planets hold. When they find new tools, they will be able to go back to previous planets and use those tools to access new areas and find new secrets that were not available before. To thoroughly discover everything the universe has to offer, players will have to explore all around and use every tool at their disposal.
Bizarre Creatures And Environments Are A Highlight Of The Game
LikeJourney to the Savage Planetbefore it,Revengefeatures planets populated by a wide variety of unique flora and extremelybizarre and hilarious creatures. Some are friendly, others are aggressive, and all of them are truly one-of-a-kind. Plants and animals alike effectively balance cuteness and grossness to create a rich, visceral, and unforgettable aesthetic. It truly feels alien, like players are far from the Earth home they once knew and much of their surroundings are unfamiliar and strange.
A few ofRevenge’sofferings include brain-like mushrooms that can be punted around like volleyballs, orb-shaped raccoons with constant terrified looks on their faces (a nod to the game’s development studio,Raccoon Logic), and a giant space whale that serenely floats around one planet’s upper atmosphere. The best and most memorable of the new creatures were definitely the Babutts, butt-faced monkeys that spew a mysterious and (thankfully) unidentified liquid at the player when provoked.
Like inJourney to the Savage Planet,every creature in the game can be scanned to learn about them, and the game encourages players to scan everything they encounter to learn as much as possible about the planets and their inhabitants.Revengeincludes a new mechanic, where creatures can be captured and kept in a zoo-like environment near the Habitat. And yes, all captured creaturescan be petted!This mechanic isn’t just for fun, as capturing different ranks of creatures can earn players a variety of rewards, including decorative creature-themed items to spruce up the Habitat.
There Is A Hilarious And Deep Story At The Game’s Center
Revenge of the Savage Planetseems like a fun game with tons of exploring and messing around with creatures - but it’s not without a surprisingly deep story as well. The player character wakes up on a strange planet to learn they were made redundant by Alta Interglobal nearly a century ago. They can then choose to get revenge by seeking evidence of Alta’s corruption scattered across multiple planets. The true depths of Alta’s evil were not revealed during the preview, but it was definitely hinted that they were up to some extremely unsavory things.
Revenge of the Savage Planetis a game that can be enjoyed alone or together, although experiencing it in co-op does further encourage solving problems creatively and taking multiple different approaches to the same situation. It’s a perfect game for friends, family, or couples to enjoy together. Currently,Revenge of the Savage Planetis scheduled for a Q1 or Q2 2025 release on multiple platforms.
