Summary
Bullymay be making a comeback, according to some recently published regulatory filings. The newly emerged evidence suggests that Rockstar is possibly working on modernizingBullyfor the latest two console generations.
Bully, known asCanis Canem Editin Europe, is a critically acclaimed open-world action adventure made by Rockstar Vancouver. It was originally released for the PS2 in 2006 before an improved version of the game, subtitledScholarship Edition, made its way to the Wii, Xbox 360, and PC two years later. Bully Rated in Taiwan for PlayStation and Xbox Consoles
Yet another edition of the game may now be on the horizon, asBullyhas just received multiple new age classifications in Taiwan. As first spotted byGematsu, the Digital Game Rating Committee’s database was recently updated with entries for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S versions ofBully. All four were published in late August 2024, together with new DGRC age ratings for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. SinceBully: Scholarship Editionalready has a DGRC rating from 2006, this new X360 classification was possibly published in error.
Bully’s GTA+ Debut Is Possibly Connected to Taiwan Ratings
While the emergence of these ratings could indicate that Rockstar is working on another version of the game, that’s not the only possible explanation. The company just recentlyaddedBullyto its GTA+ subscription service, which is available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This move might have prompted it to update the game’s age classifications.
At the same time, remastering one of its classics would hardly be an unprecedented move on Rockstar’s part. After all, that’s precisely what the company did with the2021Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogybundle.Red Dead Redemptionwas also ported to the Switch and PlayStation 4 back in 2023, shortly following its 13th anniversary.
The new DGRC age classifications have emerged online shortly after one reportclaimed that Rockstar was once working on aBullyDS port. However, that project is said to have been shelved around 2009, possibly because its developers at Rockstar Leeds were assigned to help Team Bondi finishLA Noire. Aside from new versions of Bully, Taiwan’s game classification authority has recently also published ratings for console editions ofNine Sols, a critically acclaimed metroidvania that’s currently only available on PC and hasn’t been announced for any other platforms.
