Summary

A beloved character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is rumored to be making a comeback inThe Fantastic Four: First Steps. His addition to the upcoming Marvel movie is reasonable, and fans will surely agree.

Marvel’s first family is coming back with new cast members, includingPedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Eben Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/Thing. It’s been nearly a decade since fans sawFantastic Fouron the big screen. The 2015 reboot starring Miles Teller (Reed Richards), Kate Mara (Susan Storm), Michael B. Jordan (Human Torch) and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm) was a flop. So, there’s a big expectation in the upcoming superhero flick. Aside from the new cast, there are rumors that an esteemed MCU character will make an appearance in the newFantastic Fourmovie.

One insiderclaimedthatSamuel L. Jackson’s Nick Furywould joinThe Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s unclear whether he will make a cameo or play a more significant appearance. Whether he has a short or long screen time, there is no doubt that Jackson’s appearance will have repercussions on the franchise. Jackson has been part of the MCU as Fury, an American spy, former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and founder of the Avengers. He made his debut in the MCU in the post-credit scenes ofIron Man(2008), where he met Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) at his home in Malibu to discuss the Avengers Initiative. He also appeared inIron Man 2(2010), where he sent Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), to assess Stark if he was worth recruiting for Avengers.

Jackson’s Fury is an important figure in the MCU. After his stint inIron Man, Jackson reprised the role for several other Marvel movies, includingThor(2011),Captain America: The First Avenger(2011),The Avengers(2012),Captain America: The Winter Soldier(2014),Avengers: Age of Ultron(2015),Avengers: Infinity War(2018) andAvengers: Endgame(2019). He also appeared in the post-credits scene ofSpider-Man: Far From Home(2019) andThe Marvels(2023). Jackson also headlined the 2023 television miniseriesSecret Invasion, based on the 2008 Marvel Comics, where Fury returns to Earth to help Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) stop a rogue Skrull from invading the planet.

Fury’s appearance inThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsis important because he plays a significant part in the first family’s discovery. Fury saw theFantastic Fourrescuing citizens from an accident on the Brooklyn Bridge, and he informed the U.S. President about them, who ordered him to keep an eye on them. He even saved them from Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, and took them to the Vault for their protection. Another source claimed that RDJ would make hisDoctor Doom debut inThe Fantastic Four. So, it makes sense if Jackson’s Fury would be there and have a face-off with Downey Jr.’s supervillain character. However, one has to take the report about Jackson’s involvement inThe Fantastic Fourwith a grain of salt until Marvel confirms it.

The Fantastic Four: First Stepswill hit theaters on May 24, 2025.
