Scream 7was confirmed in mid-2023 following thepositive reception ofScream 6. One of the significant changes in the upcoming movie was Christopher Landon taking over the director chair from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. However, in December 2023, Landon announced his departure from the project. In March 2024, it was confirmed that Neve Campbell, who did not joinScream 6due to a pay dispute, would return forScream 7and Kevin Williamson would helm the film. Williamson was also the screenwriter ofScream, Scream 2,andScream 4, so the new director for the upcoming flick is not really new to the franchise. However, fans will see a new face and probably more new characters inScream 7.
According to movie insider Daniel Richtman onPatreon,Ghostbusters: Frozen Empirestar McKenna Grace will joinScream 7, too. She will portray Tatum, Sidney Prescott’s (Campbell) eldest daughter.Another insiderpreviously claimed that the film “will have two main storylines, one about Sid and her friends from the neighborhood, and the second one about Sid’s teen daughter Taylor (could be a codename) and her friends. Each of them will have to deal with Ghostface.” However, it is unclear whether Taylor is Tatum or Sidney’s other daughter.
In March,Campbell announced her return to the franchise, confirming that fans would see Sidney on the big screen again. She shared a photo of the script onInstagramand accompanied it with a lengthy caption confirming her participation inScream 7. “Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” Campbell wrote. Thus, it makes sense if the upcoming movie will feature Sidney’s daughters. Courteney Cox will also return to reprise her role as Gale. Apparently,Gale survived the attack inScream 6but had to deal with new trauma following her recent encounter with Ghostface. Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega are also expected to return in the nextScreammovie.
Campbell is one of the original cast members of the franchise, so her return is a treat to fans because itbrings Sidney Prescott backand many have already missed her. It’s also interesting to see Sidney with her children in the upcoming movie. Sidney is a significant character in the franchise. She was even dubbed the ultimate “final girl” because she was the last woman standing to confront Ghostface. Her emotional journey has been relevant in the franchise, which showed her dealing with trauma, trust issues and emotional scars brought about by the repeated attacks from various iterations of Ghostface. Sidney became a fierce protector from a scared victim. Fans can expect to see this side of Sidney once more, as she will surely do all she can to keep her children safe from Ghostface.
