A leaker has shared technical specs for both thePlayStation 6and Sony’s rumored handheld system. With the PS5 nearing the five-year mark since its release, the current console generation is likely coming to an end before long, but Sony has not offered many details about what fans can expect. WhilePlayStationitself remains relatively quiet, recent leaks may offer a glimpse into what the company’s upcoming systems can do.
Not long after rumors about the PlayStation 6 began circulating, numerous sources alleged thatSony is planning to release a handheld alongside the PS6as a cheaper alternative. That seems increasingly likely as the Switch 2 continues to dominate the current market and Microsoft has leaned more heavily into portable systems. A new leak suggests that not only is that handheld real, but it could be fairly powerful.
Moore’s Law Is Dead dug into the rumored specs in an August 1 YouTube video, claiming to have gotten them from an AMD proposal to Sony. According to the leak, the PS6 home console is codenamed “Orion” and will boast 40 to 48 RDNA 5 compute units, reaching up to 3 gigahertz or more. Earlier rumors suggested boththe PS6 and next-gen Xbox would use RDNA 5 architecture, so that may not be surprising, but it would offer a significant performance upgrade over the baseline PS5. The console’s CPU will reportedly feature eight Zen 6 or later cores, and the system’s rasterization performance could be three times that of the PS5, with an even bigger upgrade coming for its ray-tracing capabilities.
New Leak Details PS6 Home Console and Handheld Specs
As for the handheld, Moore’s Law Is Dead claims it’s going by the production codename “Canis” and may not have the most staggering specs on the market but will likely outperform the ROG Xbox Ally X. Canis will reportedly run on a four-core Zen 6 CPU and will feature between 12 and 20 RDNA 5 compute units at 1.6 to 2 GHz. It may also have slots for both a MicroSD card and an M.2 SSD, giving users more options for expandable storage. The earlier rumors thatthe PS6 could release around November 2027seem accurate, too, as Moore’s Law Is Dead claims Sony is aiming for a Fall 2027 or early 2028 launch for both the home and handheld consoles.
The video also dives into the expected price point for Sony’s next generation of consoles. While the PS5 Pro came with an eye-watering price tag and the company has suggested thatPS5 prices could go upin response to tariffs, the PS6 may be surprisingly affordable by comparison. According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, Sony wants to avoid the price drama it ran into with recent releases, and the new architecture could be more cost-effective, leading the PS6 home console to run for $600 or less and the handheld to be as low as $400 to $500. Of course, all of this information is unverified and unofficial at the moment, but the future could be exciting for Sony fans.
