Summary
It seems as though the upcomingPirates of the Caribbeanmovie over atDisneyis set to start filming next year. This news follows years of speculation about Disney’s plans for the popular film franchise, and there have even been calls from fans for the House Of Mouse to just go ahead and cancel the next movie in the Pirates saga, which would be a pretty big deal.
Pirates of the Caribbeanhas been one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, grossing over $4.5 billion worldwide—an incredible achievement. However, Disney hasn’t released a new film in the series sincePirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which hit theaters in 2017. Since then, the franchise has faced challenges, particularly as Johnny Depp—the star of the series and arguably the main reason for its massive success—became embroiled in a very public legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
What’s going on with this sixth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie?
Now, it’s being reported by Daniel Richtman, an industry insider with a solid track record in film and TV news, that Disney plans to start filming the next installment in thePiratessaga sometime next year. Richtman didn’t share many details inhis post on Patreon, nor did he confirm whether Disney is considering bringing back Johnny Depp as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow. It will be fascinating to see how Disney ultimately handles the future of this franchise. The bottom line is that thePiratesseries is too valuable to leave dormant.
There have been rumors (which were then confirmed) that Disney was developing a female-ledPiratesmovie withMargot Robbie in the lead role. There were then reports suggesting that the project may had been put on hold. That said, back in February, Richtman posted that Disney was considering reviving the project with Ayo Edebiri (star ofThe Bear) as the lead in this newPiratesinstallment.
Fans then got confirmation that the Margot Robbie-led project was back on track whenPirates of the Caribbeanproducer Jerry Bruckheimerrevealed that Disney was very keen on getting it made. He mentioned this during an interview withEntertainment Weekly, and he also added that he would love to seeJohnny Depp return as Jack Sparrowin this ‘rebooted’Piratesfilm. This reboot, which is being written by Jeff Nathanson, seems to be moving along at quite a pace, and Bruckheimer revealed that Nathanson has “cracked” the script. He added: “He’s got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second, and then we’ll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.”
“If it was up to me [Jerry Bruckheimer], he [Johnny Depp] would be in it [Pirates Of The Caribbean 6].”
As for Depp’s potential return in this rebootedPiratesfilm, Bruckheimer stated: “It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it.” He added: “I love him. He’s a good friend. He’s an amazing artist, and he has a unique style. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page; that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.”
