Although many of these games have been ported to modern platforms over the years, some of them are sadly still stuck on seventh-generation consoles to this day. Fortunately, several titles from this era that weren’t ported to PS4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and/or PC, will finally be brought over to these systems later this year, specifically in September and October. These two months, in particular, will be huge for fans of seventh-generation consoles, as they’ll see the release of a plethora of remasters and remakes of games from this period.
September and October 2024 Are Filled With Remasters of Seventh-Generation Games
Three Big Remasters Are Launching This September
This wave of seventh-generation re-releases will kick off withthe launch ofLollipop Chainsaw RePoPon Jul 06, 2025. This upcoming hack-and-slash title is a remaster of the cult classic 2012 game of the same name, which was helmed byNo More Heroescreator Suda51 andGuardians of the Galaxydirector James Gunn.Lollipop Chainsawwas only released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in the day, but this new,RePopedition of the game will not only bring it to Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but it will also add some new gameplay improvements and costumes for the player character, among other things.
Roughly a week after the launch ofRePoP, Capcom will releaseDead Rising Deluxe Remasteron September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Since the originalDead Risinghas been available on most modern platforms for nearly a decade,a remaster of the game would normally seem unnecessary. However, despite its name,DRDRis less of a remaster and more of a full-on remake, as it brings sweeping changes to not only the graphics but the gameplay as well.
These two titles aren’t the only remasters set to come out in September, though, asEpic Mickey Rebrushedis currently slated to hit store shelves on the 25thof the month. As the game’s name suggests, this title is a remake of the 2010 3D platformerEpic Mickey, which was and still is a Wii exclusive, even though its sequel was released on other consoles. Now, nearly 14 years later, the game is finally making its way to all modern platforms in 2024.
Two More Remasters Are Coming Out in October
This streak of seventh-generation remasters continues into October with the release ofSonic X Shadow GenerationsandShadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, which will launch on the 25th and the 31st of the month, respectively. The former of these two titles is a product bundle, while the latter is more of a straightforward re-release.Sonic X Shadow Generationspackages the classic PS3, Xbox 360, and PC gameSonic Generationstogether witha brand-new side game calledShadow Generations.SotD: Hella Remastered, on the other hand, brings the cult classic action-adventure gameShadows of the Damnedto all modern platforms, following its 2011 release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Many seventh-generation titles, including the aforementionedLollipop ChainsawandShadows of the Damned,have been inaccessible on most modern platformsfor ages. For this reason, seeing them get re-released on current-gen systems after so many years, and in such a short time frame, no less, is great not only for convenience purposes, but for game preservation as a whole.
