Following the success of theSilent Hill 2remake in 2024,Konami is set to further theSilent Hillsagathis year with its first mainline game in over two decades,Silent Hill f. The upcoming survival horror game, first announced in 2022, does away with the franchise’s usual Western setting and takes matters home to Japan this time. More precisely, the game’s story is set in Ebisugaoka in ’60s Japan and revolves around Shimizu Hinako, a school student, who must make her way through the monsters and other challenges lurking in the fog-covered town.
Silent Hill fdevs recently shared that the game will have five different endings, each with its own interpretation, per a newPolygonreport. However, all players will experience one particular ending on their first playthrough, with the other endings unlocking for successive runs. Ryukishi07, the writer forSilent Hill f, stated that a common first ending was chosen because the devs intended the player to go through a story crafted with purpose in their initial playthrough and explore other perspectives after finishing the game once. On the subsequent playthroughs, the in-game actions of the player will determine which ending they get, which the writer hinted may not be as straightforward as “black and white” or “good or bad.” Additionally, one of these endings was revealed to be a “UFO ending,” something that has appeared inpastSilent Hillgamesas well.
Silent Hill f to Continue Series Tradition with Multiple Endings
Apart from the multiple story endings, theSilent Hill fdevsannounced that the latest title will also come with a New Game Plus mode. To incentivize players to revisit Ebisugaoka, this mode will offer differing boss fights, more exploration, and new story bits conveyed through new cinematic sequences. For longtime fans,Silent Hill f’s continuation of the long-standing series tradition of offering multiple story endings is likely to be encouraging. Despite going for a different setting for the plot this time, the devs seem to have retained certain features like this one that the fans have become accustomed to over the span of the franchise.
