Nintendo’s newest “Partner Showcase” broadcast on Thursday brought plenty of exciting news about upcoming games for both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, withSquare-Enixmaking multiple announcements. The developer once again teased the upcoming remake ofFinal Fantasy Tactics, while also surprise revealing a newOctopath Travelergame. Now, the developer has unveiled a brand-new IP coming to the Switch 2.
Square-Enix has made the “HD-2D” style into a mainstay of the beloved JRPG developer’s games throughout recent years with a variety of different titles. TheOctopath Travelerseries helped to popularize the styling for the studio, with the game seeing instant success following its release. The studio continued to push the high-definition pixelated style with theLive A Liveremake andTriangle Strategy, even releasing remakes ofDragon Quest 3and confirminga remake of the first twoDragon Questgamesin the HD-2D artstyle. Square-Enix has now revealed thatThe Adventures of Elliotwill bring the artstyle into a new action RPG.
During Nintendo’s Partner Showcase livestream for July, Square-Enix officially revealedThe Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Talesas a brand-new HD-2D game. The game will follow young adventurer Elliot sent from the Kingdom of Huther who is sent off to investigate the mysterious ruins of Philabieldia.The Adventures of Elliotwill be the first action RPG inSquare-Enix’s HD-2D style, with players also able to team up with a friend controlling Elliot’s fairy companion, Faie.The Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Talesis scheduled to release sometime during 2026, with a demo for the game available now.

The action RPG gameplay will be a fresh new feel for the artstyle, which has primarily beenused for turn-based JRPGsand strategy games.The Adventures of Elliotalso looks to have plenty of variety in the gameplay for its main character, with seven different styles of weapons which can be upgraded using Magicite crystals.The Adventures of Elliotwill be the first time an HD-2D game from Square Enix has experimented with co-op gameplay.
