Stardew Valleyhas established itself as the indie farm simulator to play. As the coziest of all cozy games,Stardew Valleyhas seen many updates over the course of its eight-year history. ThoughStardew Valley’s latest update may not be the largest the game has ever seen, 1.6.9 has plenty to offer players.
This new update acts more as an expansion of preexisting aspects ofStardew Valley. While new content and features areadded through 1.6.9, most of these new details aren’t wholly original despite their necessity or fun factor.
Stardew Valley 1.6 vs 1.6.9
Stardew Valley’s previous update, 1.6, was released in March. This update was substantial, adding new festivals and events, a new farm type, new NPC dialogue, winter outfits, mystery boxes, and many, many new features and content. ConcernedApe also made sure that a litany of bug fixes, balance, multiplayer, and quality of life changes, visual improvements, and even fixes for modded players were included in the update.
While PC players may havereceived the massive 1.6 updateeight months ago, console and mobile players received this update on November 4, with roll out beginning at 10 am PST. The 1.6 update was included in 1.6.9 players for console and mobile players rather than as two separate updates.
Additions to Stardew Valley From 1.6.9
New Gameplay Elements in Stardew Valley
Of course, new features and mechanics were also added to 1.6.9 that were not part of 1.6. One of the biggest additions is the Lost Items Shop, found in the Secret Woods. If a player unlocks a unique item and loses it, this secret shop will spawn overnight behind the fallen column in the form of a crow. This crow will remain in place so long as the item remains lost. The Lost Items Shop specifically sells items that can’t be re-obtained any other way. In multiplayer mode, any gamer can purchase a lost item at the shop. All items cost 10,000 gold.
Unfortunately for console players, developers confirmedin theStardew ValleyDiscord server that the Lost Items Shop is currently only available for PC and mobile. However, it will be added to console in a future patch.
Legendary fish can nowbe added to fish ponds. These ponds will then produce legendary fish roe. Each legendary fish turns the water of the pond a unique color. While this addition may lead to higher priced roe, there are limitations to the feature. Only one legendary fish can be added to each fish pond.
Practical Stardew Valley Additions
1.6.9 also added more practical updates andfixes toStardew Valley. For example, items dropped in water now float for a short period of time. If a player has a magnet ring or particularly quick reflexes, they can collect the dropped time in no time. Players can also now place beds and sleep inside any constructed buildings that allow furniture. This means that players can catch up on some Zs in a wide variety of locations.
The biggest practical addition is a list of cheat commandsforStardew Valley. It should be noted that these cheat commands aren’t simple codes typed into a bar like inThe Sims 4. These codes have severe ramifications for gameplay as they require players to edit their save files.
Thesetwo cheat commands letplayers add more money to their wallet with cheat “money ’ or access debug commands with cheat “debug .” Players will need to open their save file in a save editor and find the “” element to insert these commands. By changing the value of to true, players will find a chat box to enter the cheat commands upon loading into the save they edited.
Other small bug fixes and visual changes wereadded inStardew Valley’s 1.6.9 update, but these bigger additions could change gameplay inStardew Valleygoing forward.
