Summary

OneStarfieldplayer has made an observation about the Crimson Fleet’s recruiting methods and their general lack of a vetting process for bringing in fresh pirates. Specifically, this player decided to go on an undercover infiltration operation againstStarfield’s most organized group of pirates while wearing the uniform of their greatest enemy, and they were surprised by the reaction - or lackterof.

One of the biggest choices players have to make in Starfield is whether toside with UC SysDef or the Crimson Fleet. The choice generally comes down to a question of morality, as United Colonies System Defense is a militarized police organization for a government that many across the galaxy view as oppressive, while the Crimson Fleet members value their own personal freedoms above all else, though they’re usually okay with robbery and murder. One of the biggest quest lines in the entire game allows players to join the Crimson Fleet while working undercover for UC SysDef, after which the player can decide whether to follow through with the mission or pull a double cross on the United Colonies and stick with the pirates.

As Reddit user Cleobule has shown, pulling a fast one on the Crimson Fleet is ridiculously easy, to the point that it may even be considered a fully fledgedStarfieldplot hole. This player decided to carry out their secret mission for UC SysDef by infiltrating the Crimson Fleet while wearing a full UC SysDef uniform. Despite the space pirates' general distrust for just about anyone, including each other, the player said that not only did the Crimson Fleet members not blow them away on the spot, but no one even seemed to notice that they had walked into a criminal space station dressed as a space cop. While the situation is humorous, it has led some fans to criticize Bethesda for not programming in some sort of realistic reaction to NPCs seeing an obvious member of a hostile faction show up on their doorstep.

Crimson Fleet’s Lack of Awareness is a Starfield Plot Hole

It’s not just UC SysDef gear that the Crimson Fleet members choose to ignore.Starfield’s Mantis quest linecan be triggered early in the game and allows the player character to acquire the spaceship and armor of folk-hero-like bounty hunter The Mantis, essentially taking on their persona. One player in the comments said they had joined the Crimson Fleet while dressed as this costumed crime fighter and received an identical lack of any reaction whatsoever.

Other people commenting on the hilarity of the overt operation have tried to pull off similar stunts in the game, running missions for one of thefactions inStarfieldwhile dressed in the uniform or armor of another opposing faction. One player even detailed workarounds for signing up with the Freestar Rangers while dressed up as a member of outlaw mercenary group The First, even though The First typically don’t appear in the game outside of Freestar Ranger missions.
