Summary
Bethesda’s latestStarfieldupdate reinstates its uncapped frame rate for Xbox Series X users and fixes a handful of issues with Trackers Alliance and Shattered Space quests.Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC has been out for just over a month and received solid reception from players and critics. Taking place on the House Va’ruun homeworld, Va’ruun’kai, Shattered Space offers a short and sweet experience that deals with the mysterious and dangerous space cult.
Starfield’s 2023 launch was mired in controversy surrounding its frame rate on Xbox Series X, which was initially capped at 30 frames per second. Many Xbox gamers expected more from the most powerful Xbox console ever, especially with such a massive new dream game fromTodd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios. Thankfully, Bethesda rolled out an update in May that brought 60 FPS to console users, giving those who were holding out for a better performance the green light. Console gamers with VRR displays were even able to choose “uncapped” frame rate, though the option has been made unavailable since.
Now, with thelatestStarfieldupdate, 1.14.74, Bethesda has made the game’s uncapped frame rate available once more for Xbox Series X users with compatible displays. The update also brings further stability toStarfieldand fixes a bug that had to do with the home screen’s Message of the Day display. Trackers Alliance quests have a big presence in the patch notes, asBethesda has fixed a number of issueshaving to do with bounty targets, including making them now appear in major hubs like Mars' Cydonia, Gagarin Landing, and Akila City, and updating their previously limited wardrobes.
With Shattered Space having just released about a month ago, it naturally shows up inStarfield’s update 1.14.74 notes as well. A number of bugs that have to do with key moments of the DLC’s “What Remains,” “A House Divided,” and “Zealous Overreach” quests have been resolved. Interestingly, no main or side quests from the base game appear in the patch notes. Seeing that Bethesda has been rolling outStarfieldpatches and updatesfor over a year now, it seems most of the base game’s issues, which were few and far between compared to the studio’s past launches, have been smoothed over at this point.
Now that Shattered Space is out the door, Bethesda has yet to confirm a second major DLC coming toStarfield. Though, in an interview with MrMattyPlays over the summer,Todd Howard did mention a “Year 2” roadmapof updates and expressed the studio’s interest in bringing one big expansion per year toStarfield. Whether he meant Shattered Space-sized DLC drops or smaller experiences is yet to be known, but fans can be assured that Bethesda will continue supporting and improvingStarfieldfor years to come.
