Summary

Valve recently released a newSteamclient update, adding an eagerly awaited feature to the platform and fixing multiple bugs. This is one of the biggest updates thatSteamhas seen this year, marking an exciting time for the platform’s users.

A few months ago,Steam was reported to be working on a game recording feature, enabling gamers to record gameplay without needing third-party apps. The feature, which could then only be accessed in beta, was among the most eagerly expected additions for Steam users in 2024.

The new Steam client update has just been released, allowing all users to use the new built-in Steam Game Recording system to capture and share footage with friends. According to Steam, the new feature will allow gamers to choose if they will use the Background Recording mode to constantly save their clips while playing, or activate it on demand. The system will also allow for quick replays of scenes and make it convenient to edit and share clips. The feature will be fully compatible with Steam Deck, work will any game including non-Steam titles, and allow gamers to use markers to reference points that they want to watch later.

This was not the only change in the update, which also introduced dozens of fixes, such as games crashing when using D3D9. It also addressed problems with Xbox controllers in some instances. Unfortunately, the platform has also revealed that, unlikeprevious Steam updates, the new version of the client will no longer be compatible with Windows 7 and 8, as well as macOS10.13 and 10.14. Users on these operating systems will not be able to install the update and won’t reap the benefits of the new patch.

The update is not the only change Steam has made recently. Last week,Steam changed its policies for developers, forcing companies using kernel-level anti-cheat software to post a disclaimer about it. A few months ago, Steam also issued new rules advising developers to mark games with AI-generated content, and the new policy follows a similar strategy.

2024 has been an excellent year for Steam, which is currently bigger than ever. Back in August,Steam reached a new all-time player count peakfor the second time this year, with over 37 million gamers using the platform at the same time. With Steam’s steady growth, it’s expected that the digital platform will keep releasing more updates to keep its player base engaged.
