On August 13, Valve rolled out a Steamupdate which implemented a new tab on the store’s homepage. Now, when users scroll down toward the bottom of the main storefront, they will notice that there is now a “Trending Free” tab alongside the standard tabs. The aim is to separate free-to-play games and demos from paid games that are also new and trending, a feature that fans have been requesting for a long time. Steam’s latest addition is already being praised, with many calling it a welcome change to the platform.

As Valve regularlyreleases new Steam updates, this handy new feature appears to have gone unnoticed by much of the community, but those users who did notice it are praising Valve for making the change. Over on Reddit, user Naftak said it was an extremely welcome change as the trending tab was becoming “unusable.” However, not everyone was so happy with the change. Some users noted that the new trending free tab appears to be dominated by demos, while actual free-to-play games are few and far between.

With plenty of amazingfree-to-play games on Steam, it’s understandable why fans would be a little perplexed by this new tab being filled with nothing but demos. However, it is worth noting that at the bottom of the tab, there are two “see more” options for users to check out. The first will show users a plethora of free-to-play games, while the second will show users more demos.

Steam continues to face stiff competition from other popular storefronts, with theEpic Games Store giving away free gamesregularly, so its continued evolution and inclusion of new features are always welcome by fans. If the new trending free tab is going to consist purely of demos, however, Valve likely has some tweaking to do if it wants to make the new feature a hit with all users.
