Clevatessis aDark Fantasy Mangawritten and illustrated by Yūji Iwahara, and it’s a brutal and merciless depiction of how humanity struggles to find its place in a world limited by the constant threat of powerful Monster Kings, who do not allow them to go beyond their borders. Its anime adaptation is also considered a must-watchfor those who love gritty dark stories like Berserk.
There are many memorable characters in this story, but readers might be wondering: Who is the strongest of them all? This ranked list compares the power of the most powerful beings in theClevatess manga, according to their ability to destroy everything, or overcome impossible battles.
This list contains spoilers of Clevatess Anime and Manga. Readers should proceed at their own risk.
1Clevatess
The Most Powerful Beast King
As one of the Beast Kings, Clevatess holds the title of the strongest creature in the world. With absolute dominion over light and darkness, this monstrous being that resembles a mixture of lion, ram, and wolf has been guarding the Southern border from times immemorial. Though he himself is not the first Beast King of the South, as his title was inherited around 1000 years prior to the beginning of the series, it is recognized as the most powerful of all the Four Rulers. His power is so great, that he was able to wipe out an entire Capital in a single night.
Though vulnerable in his human shape (Klem), Clevatess is scheming, holds the wisdom of ages, and has defeated hundreds of generations of heroes armed with the Manahydrite weapons. For some reason, the last king of Hyden, Hydelius V recognizes Clevatess as the strongest and last barrier of the hominid races to break through the limits of the world. Clevatess, in turn, has felt the pull of curiosity for the mortals and their ways, and the only reason why he doesn’t exterminate all of humanity is that same curiosity that has pulled him out of seclusion. Otherwise, he could very well wipe out all of the human kingdoms if he desired.
2Vordein
Lord Of All Dragons
Vordein, the Beast King of the North, isan ancient Dragon dozens of times biggerthan regular ones, with an abnormal number of eyes growing all over his body. This creature controls fire and blood, and dark sorcery beyond anything humanity has ever known. Ancient and scheming, Vordein prefers a more subtle approach; sending his chosen one, Dorel, and familiars in the shape of small salamanders instead of directly intervening in the human world.
Clevatess recognizes the might of the Dragon Ruler, but despite that, also thinks himself quite capable of beating him without effort. Though the Four Beast Kings are not supposed to fight against each other, Vordein has been directing his attention to the human realm of Hyden, to uncover the secrets of the Ruler’s Forge. This interest is opposed to Clevatess' intentions of ruling the humans from the shadows, by controlling Luna, so this might force the two beast Kings to face each other in the future.
3Zaftier
Considered A Deity By The Forest Folk
Zaftier is the Beast King of the West, and the only female one.Revered as a Goddess by the Peopleof the Forest, she has started to send her agents to track down the disappearance of both monster and human children. She suspects Dark Sorcery is under the kidnappings, and thus, has sent her agents to uncover the truth. Her appearance is that of a humanoid monster with wings sprouting from her ankles, though since Beast Kings can shapeshift into humanoid forms, that might not be her true appearance.
She is a master of illusion, and Clevatess spoke to Alice about her talent for Illusory Magic. She has the power to manipulate Mist to create a shroud around her dominions, which has protected those lands for generations, separating them from the inland conflicts and the influence of the Empire of Boelette, and the Hyden Kingdom.
4Laswell
Barely Mentioned, But His Size Gives Away His Power
Little is known about Laswell, the Beast King of the East, besides his clear relation with one of the races of Edthea, the Slada. This monstrous being appeared once, briefly mentioned during the introduction of the story, but his colossal shape seems akin to that of a Sea Monster.
It is mere speculation, but due to his massive size, Laswell might be one of the oldest and wisest of Beast Kings, and his detachment from overall conflicts might be due to the intervention of the secluded Slada folk, who like the Forest People seem to have some sort of understatement with him. Still, his strength as one of the Beast Kings might be at least on the level of Zaftier, but due to lack of information, we can only speculate about the true extent of this ancient being’s Power.
5Alicia Glenfall, the Immortal Heroine
The Only Human Who Managed To Hurt (Barely) A Beast King
As the daughter of a formerSwordmaster and Hero Candidate, Alicia was raised to reach the highest echelons of power, in terms of human standards, that is. Throughout the story, we see Alicia being the only human able to hurt a Beast King, even by a mere scratch. That by itself speaks volumes of her grit, strength, and potential. That was even before she fell during her fight against Clevatess, and after she was brought back from the dead as an Immortal (some might call her Undead), she has acquired even a stronger resolution and power to overcome all odds.
Her abilities shone brighter than anyone else’s when she fought to defend Hyden from the attack of Dorel, the Dragonslayer. As Clevatess' servant, Alicia has gained near invincibility, at the cost of losing her humanity. Still, she remains what she always dreamed of being: A Heroine. Wielder of the Waterfall Slicer, a legendary Manatythe Sword which used to be the weapon of the Strongest Hero of Mankind, Alicia has become powerful enough to slay everything on her path.
6Dorel, the Dragonslayer
A Master Of Dark Arts, And Demon Blood Holder
Dorel used to be a hero candidate and Swordmaster from Borate, who had a close relationship with Margo Glenfall (Alicia’s Father, and also a Hero candidate). Dorel’s past is clouded in shadows, and his enormous strength and ability to wield Dark Sorcery are thought to be due to years of magic experimentation and constant training.
After a fateful encounter in his past, Dorel went on a rampage across the world, beating monsters and humans alike in a constant search for more power. On one of his travels, he found Alicia’s Father living in exile and killed him mercilessly in front of her. After that, he became a General of the Borate Empire, and led its troops to prey upon the weakened Hyden. Dorel has proven to be brutal and malicious to an extent that cannot be comprehended, not even by Clevatess, who has lived through the ages.
7Rod Royes
Heir To A Hero, Spearmaster
Faring from the Eslinn Kingdom, Commander Rod Royes is the heir of the Ice Spear Hero and wielder of one of the few Manathyte weapons of his homeland. His battle prowess, tactical abilities, and superhuman battle sense make him a force to be reckoned. Even Dorel had trouble dealing with him, as Royes devised a wonderful strategy to impair his advances upon Hyden.
If not for General Dorel’s Dark Sorcery, Royes would have been able to overcome him during battle, but sadly, he was unable to beat him. As wielder of the Ice Spear, Royes is capable of controlling Ice, freezing rivers, summoning enormous ice shards to blast his opponents, and sliding using the ice to empower his spearmanship.
8Maynard Swan
The Most Vicious Dark Sorcerer In The Empire
The strongest and most fearsome Sorcererfrom the Borate Empire, Maynard Swan is a vicious and psychopathic maniac, with the power to control millions of insects of various sizes and shapes. His cruel methods and his relentlessness were able to put even Alicia Glenfall in a pinch, forcing her to ask for the help of Clevatess to survive their encounter.
His most fearsome ability is his power to channel Dark Sorcery into the eggs of a voracious Monster Larvae, making them hatch and devour everything in a wide area, speeding and perpetuating their life cycle to turn them into a wave that can destroy everything. He can also control enormous Centipedes and Giant Scorpions, and he is immune to their poison.
9Narle Chiffonlitz
Second Strongest Sorceress, And Able To Manipulate Metal
A Sorcerer at the service of the Empire, Narle is known for her ability to control Metal. No soldier wearing metal armor or wielding normal weapons is safe with her around. Even Alice had trouble dealing with her at first, since she didn’t have her Waterfall Slicer at the moment of their encounter.
Though Narle’s sorcery is considerably strong, it has its weaknesses. She is easily overwhelmed by sheer strength, and when there’s no metal around, her ability is practically useless. Still, her control and Sorcery Affinity allow her to make an entire wagon full of people float across great distances. That by itself is an indicator of her great power.
