Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s future could depend on how Rocksteady uses its existing roster of characters. Though adding new characters from DC’s roster to the game may seem better forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueon paper, the mixed reception to new characters might mean it’s time for a new approach.

Suicide Squadleans hard into the multiverse when it comes to adding characters to its roster. One example is their adaptation of Mr. Freeze. While a female villain with ice powers would be a great addition to the game,Kill the Justice Leaguedecided to simplygender bend the character as Victoria Friesrather than adapting preexisting characters in the Arkhamverse. In this specific instance, Nora Fries could take up the mantle of Mrs. Freeze as she takes on the role both in DC Comics and is the catalyst for Dr. Victor Fries becoming Mr. Freeze in the Arkhamverse. With reviving methods like the Lazarus Pit established in the Arkhamverse, Nora’s death could have been retconned easily.

Season three’s addition of Lawless faces similar issues. This version of Lawlessis an almost original adaptation of the character found in DC Comics. InKill the Justice League, the mantle of Lawless is taken up by Zoe Lawton, Deadlock’s daughter. While Lawless is aSuicide Squadmember in DC’s long-running history and Zoe Lawton is also a preexisting character, these two people are distinct and have not been combined previously. This gives players ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueno reference to Lawton’s version of Lawless or any preexisting attachment.

Exploring the multiverse is a concept that has worked in previous mainline superhero video game titles, butSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehas yet to stick the landing. Rather than rearranging characters like Rocksteady has been wont to do, delving into the game’s current roster of playable characters could give the game more depth.

Kill the Justice League Should Take a Closer Look at its Character’s Backstories

By examining the backstories of playable characters inKill the Justice League’s roster, additional characterscould be included without semantics or frustration from fans. Particularly, looking at the lesser known members of the Suicide Squad could add more depth to the game. A connection between Deadshot and Lawless has already been established and all DC fans know of the toxicity between Harley Quinn and the Joker, but characters like Captain Boomerang and King Shark have yet to have their time in the spotlight.

For example,Captain Boomerang was a key memberof the Rogues, one of DC’s many super villain groups, back in the Silver Age. Incorporating old school villains from Captain Boomerang’s past could present an opportunity to make fresh versions of the characters, something Rocksteady has done several times inKTJL. Villains like Gorilla Grodd, Pied Piper, and Mirror Master come to mind. In the case of King Shark, fellow half-animal half-human hybrids that he has collaborated with, like Orca, or villains with sea-themed backstories and powers, like Aquaman nemesis Black Manta, could buff up his backstory.

The Arkhamverse Has Plenty of Characters That Could Return

Of course, the Arkhamverse could reintroduce villains and anti-heroes that were included in its previous installments.Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecould act as an interesting way to explore Jason Todd. Though he may have put up the Arkham Knight’s helmet, his role as the Red Hoodhas always been a bit contradictory to the moral code of his adoptive father, Bruce Wayne. Namely, the Red Hood has remained undeterred from murdering villains in cold blood, which stands in clear violation of Batman’s philosophy.

With a new version of the Joker being a playable character inKill the Justice League, further angst could be brought about by infighting with Jason Todd, who was brutally tortured by the clown. Of course,Red Hood is known as a member of the Bat Family, and also associated with the Outlaws in the comics. However, he operated with the Suicide Squad once inSuicide Squad: Get Joker!in 2021, making his addition to the team unlikely, but possible. Time will only tell which characters are added inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but the fact remains that Rocksteady and Warner Bros. have a massive selection of characters at their disposal from Arkhamverse’s past, present, and future, to pull from.
