Released in February 2024,support forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueendedin January 2025 following the game’s final post-launch story update. Marred by rampant bugs and server issues, the title was also widely criticized for its repetitive gameplay loop and mission design, with many players also left frustrated by its live service elements. Months afterSuicide Squad’s launch, Warner Bros. announced that it had taken a $200 million loss on the title, and the game’s continuously weak performance in the months following led to its eventual demise. While many players suspected that this failure would shutter any further ventures into live service from the company, it now seems that this is not the case.

Games Montreal website indicates that the company is working on a “AAA game based on one of the iconic IPs from the vast Warner Bros. and DC Comics catalog,” which will also require successful applicants to “oversee all phases of development, from concept to post-launch live operations.” Nothing more is known about this mystery project, though it seems to matchrecent restructuring efforts at Warner Bros. Games, which indicated that the company would be focusing on four key franchises going forward:Harry Potter,Mortal Kombat, DC, andGame of Thrones. While fans of DC Comics would likely be thrilled to get their hands on a AAA title set in a familiar universe, live service elements may quickly put many people off following recent blunders.
Warner Bros. Games Is Hiring Talent to Work On New Live Service Title in the DC Universe
Following the failure ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developerRocksteady was hit with layoffsin January 2025. This wasn’t the first time that the studio had lost staff, as in September of last year, the QA department was cut in half. Anonymous sources have come forward following the live service title’s closure, stating that the development process had been troubled from the start and priorities had been shifted too often, resulting in a poor final product.
Unfortunately,Suicide Squad’s failure was partly responsible for thecancellation of the highly anticipatedWonder Womangame, which was revealed way back at The Game Awards 2021. The title’s studio, Monolith Productions, known for its work onShadow of MordorandFEAR, was also shuttered in February following the major losses accrued by Warner Bros. Games.
