Respawn’s Mandalorian Game Remains a Glimmer of What Could Have Been
An Anticipated Departure From Respawn’s Jedi Series
Respawn has made a name for itself as a developer that is capable of crafting strongStar Warsstories.Jedi: Fallen OrderandJedi: Survivorhave been some of the most successfulStar Warsgames in recent memory, which made the prospect of the developer taking on a Mandalorian story even more exciting. Unfortunately,EA canceled Respawn’s Mandalorian gameat the beginning of the year, squashing hope for such a character to be brought to life through this medium.
The now-canceled first-person shooter would have put players in the shoes of a Mandalorian bounty hunter, which would have been a compelling change fromFallen OrderandSurvivor’s third-person perspective. Despite the game being in production since 2022,EA ultimately chose to pull the plug on the untitled projectwith no clear reason given. However,The Mandalorian and Grogumovie will hopefully signal a brighter future for a bounty hunter-focused video game.
Reports claim that Respawn’s Mandalorian game would have featured an original character instead of Din Djarin.
Reports About the Canceled Mandalorian Project Hinted at Exciting Linear Gameplay
According to previous reports from Insider Gaming, Respawn’s FPS Mandalorian game would have featured many of the best parts ofStar Wars' warrior class. Jetpacks, mercenary work, and taking bounties all reportedly played a large role in its overall gameplay. While EA has spared some of itsfutureStar Warsprojects, like its in-development strategy game from Bit Reactor, there are questions about whether Respawn will get a fresh chance at bringing a Mandalorian into its games or not.
Although Respawn’s Chance at Developing a Mandalorian Story May Be Over, There is Still Hope
Finding a Home With a Different Developer
Whatever Respawn’s Mandalorian game had in store, it is clear that EA likely viewed its content and gameplay as too much of a risk to continue. However, there is still hope for a Mandalorian character to see the light of day in another game adaptation. It may not be an FPS or feature the same rumored mechanics as Respawn’s adaptation, but that doesn’t have to be bad. SinceThe Mandalorianhas been one of the more successfulStar Warsspin-offs in recent years, it would be shocking if EA never gave this type of character a chance. The audience is there fora Mandalorian-focused game, it just has to be given the right approach.
Respawn is currently working on a third and final game in theJediseries.
Although Respawn’s adaptation sounded near-perfect, it’s impossible to know what the game would have been like.Respawn’s impressive run with theJediseriesdoesn’t necessarily mean that this same success would translate to an FPS bounty hunting game. AsThe Mandalorian and Grogu’s scheduled 2026 release looms in the distance, EA will hopefully find the perfect developer to finally bring a Mandalorian project to fruition.
